Is this reasonable? or a slippery slope?

I thought I added "in theory" or "in principle" but I guess I didn't.

We're living in an age where Republicans are getting eaten by their own and told they weren't elected "to do the right thing", they're there to enact the will of the people.

That isn't actually the spirit of representative democracy. You're supposed to choose the person who can make the best choices for his district, not do the things the collective wants most.

That post was hard to read. I literally cringed at how much of a statist Loiosh is.

Loiosh is so negative about everything. He projects his own weakness on everyone - ie about China overtaking the US - he has a "Yes we are weak. We are not the kind of people who build and create like previous generations. We can't stop it so we shouldn't fight against it" attitude. It's sad.

Yes.

And they should be smarter and better informed, that's theoretically why they're chosen to lead.

What people want is not always what they need, and making the hard choice is what separates strong leaders from weak.

I imagine for most this is a tough choice, and for sure there's a political price to pay. I believe they're making the choice that's best for the common good, and in the end most individuals aren't going to care at all about that.

so following that logic should we also not let dumb people vote then?

since they are not smart enough to know what is best for them

we should also let other people vote for them too?

That's a complicated topic and I'll I'm going to say is that I agree because authoritarianism is the easiest way to govern, but my position here is that this issue is ugly and the things they're doing carry a heavy political price.

If you want to zero in on things that are concerning, I'd focus on the vaccine passports. While I agree in principle they might be a necessary evil, that's a potential long-term sacrifice of liberty. If I was in the position to debate law makers on the implementation, I'd insist on a shelf life.
No thanks to the vaccine passports while the covid jabs are still experimental. Its easy to give out the saying that while covid the virus can give you long term side effects and the covid jabs wont right?

Everyone should have a vote.

You don't have to be smart enough to make the decisions to chose the person who makes them for you.

Why should everyone have a vote then?

For what reason?

people like you never have any consistency lol

just change your ideals depending on the situation

<{outtahere}>

This sentence coupled with the fact that we elected a vapid himbo devoid of any life experience whatsoever is pure gold.

We're human.

If we were perfect, communism would work.

How have my ideals changed?

We're supposed to elect the person who is going to make the best decisions for our countries.

I think you have a point, theres been countless examples of the Left especially left leaning media outlets completely ignoring atrocities committed by ethnic minorities.

They are very hesitant to criticise any kind of minority group regardless of what has happened so a minority figure with the ability to actually engage, debate and confront them would put (not all, but) a LOT of liberals and leftist media in a position of silence.
Leslyn Lewis could speak up right now, but she is choosing to silence herself, unlike Roman Baber and these people:

You said people are stupid and need to be protected from themselves by the people they elect. However for some reason you think the decision they make to elect someone is the best one for them. They are stupid so they need protection but also luckily made the correct decision in their vote?

like I said

zero consistency

people like you change it up whenever it suits your argument

That's a pretty aggressive interpretation although it has some merit, it can be argued that you should need to earn the right to vote. There are political structures that require you do so, we don't happen to live in one of those... But the right can be taken from us.

I said the collective is stupid, and it is. My premise is pretty complex and you seem hell bent on interpreting it incorrectly, but the core is this: We choose the person think will make the best decisions and wield the power most effectively. Because this choice affects every single person, I believe every single person should have a vote.

Are some or most people too stupid to vote? Probably.

We all still echo chambering about how we’re blindly running towards an autocracy as the sheeple clamour for experimental vaccines?

You never answered me when i asked you where do you live that you see huge line ups at food bank

In Toronto:
Parliament and Dundas st
Queen st West and Triller
Queen st West and Brock st

Just to name a few. I work in the community with vulnerable populations and these food banks always have line ups.

So not unique because of covid, but existing underlying poverty

We've already lost the good fight against government and media mandated domestication, but seeing these small, infrequent petty little victories is like finding a sip of water while lost in a hot desert. It won't save you or even help you that much.

But for a fleeting moment it tastes like the very best wine.

Now they're seeming what's essential to you. Getting a little ridiculous

We had similar in the UK, the aim was to be 'fair' towards independent businesses. IE - if Steve's Toy Store has to shut down, why should Walmart be allowed to sell children's toys? I think it was the optics, they didn't want even more monopoly going towards big stores as the sentiment of a cash-grab / wealth transfer was already in the air. Same with clothing etc.

Funny thing is, they dropped that recently and major supermarkets were selling clothing and toys again while small independent businesses spent another month in hardcore shutdown.

My sister went to a supermarket a few weeks back, before they dropped the non-essential items thing, because her daughter needed clothing to return to school. She ripped through the plastic coverings (yep, they properly fenced things off here in the UK) and got the items, then admitted to a member of staff "look, I shouldn't be buying these but without them my daughter can't attend school on Monday" and the staff just didn't care and told her to go ahead without even a pause.

Barely anyone being made to enforce these rules, believe in them.
