Summerside police say five people have been charged for failing to self-isolate less than an hour after their arrival in P.E.I. on Friday night.

In a news release, police said they received a call just after 8 p.m. AT on Friday. The caller said there was a vehicle with Ontario licence plates in the Walmart parking lot on Granville Street in Summerside, and there was "luggage attached to the vehicle."

The caller was concerned the vehicle might have just arrived in the province.

With few exceptions, anyone arriving on P.E.I. must self-isolate for two weeks in order to lower the chances of spreading COVID-19.

When police arrived at the parking lot, the vehicle was empty. Shortly after, police said, five people came out of Walmart and returned to the vehicle. They were detained by police.

Police said an investigation determined that the five had arrived on the Island from Ontario less than hour earlier.

All five were charged under the Public Health Act for failure to self-isolate as required.

Most of us played ball in the beginning. Hell my family even cancelled Christmas which was tough. After all the sacrifices, financial and otherwise, and we're no closer to being out of this bullshit just shows unequivocally that these measures don't work. People are figuring it out as we crest week 68 of 2 weeks to flatten the curve and we just don't give a flying fuck about what the government says anymore. It's obvious they don't know what they're doing.

Public health is a joke. They are completely reliant on the hospital medical system and municipal governments in order to implement what they should be implementing completely on their own. Not sure why we need them. The public health nurses here basically do car seat clinics and educate on safe needle disposal. One of our public health nurses is off on disability because she refuses to wear a mask.

I love losing prime years to give 80 year olds an extra year of sitting around their nursing homes to play bingo.

Shelter and secure the old, give them the vax and let us 20-30 year olds go.

Try to understand as I explain this yet again.
Their life is as worthy of protection from your ignorant fucking face as the next person.
Young people are responsible for the large majority of spread of COVID.
The more the virus gets to spread, the more chances it has to mutate into something worse than the original, such as the one we're dealing with now, which is sending kids and young people to the hospital.
People not giving a fuck and/or not thinking about the larger picture are the reason we now have strains that are more communicable, more severe, and more likely to seriously impact younger people.
It's not only old people at risk; on the other hand, if the virus keeps spreading it will keep mutating and it might render the vaccines we have now useless for those old people who just "let you go".

Even then, it’s first get a pre boarding Covid test result. Then another immediately on landing. Then a 14 day quarantine at a government listed facility, on your own dime.
14 days when Covid generally shows up in 5 days, tops.

I'm in no way anti-Vaxx and take COVID seriously but while the government fucked their citizens in the ass by making them stay home and not allowing people to pay their bills, our political leaders and doctors making these insane stay at home orders were getting paid in full and have probably bought multiple yachts and house in that same timeframe.

Unless you think there is a global conspiracy to infringe on individual liberties and ass fuck the economy, a lockdown was (and is) seen as the only reasonable measure to mitigate against the spread of the virus.

I'm not sure why so many average people think they know more than the world's leading epidemiologists and health care agencies. If you want an example of how opening up an economy prematurely and lifting lockdown orders devastates a country, look at India. Heck, look at Ontario!

Does it suck that so many small/medium businesses are forced to close and that a significant portion of the service sector workforce is unemployed? Absolutely. However, the vast majority of scientists would tell you that this is a necessary evil to mitigate against longer term economic and social disruption. Suffer in the short term to avoid longer term catastrophe.

Your last comment makes it sound like lock down is a devious plan by social and academic elite to keep the common man down. Hate to tell you this, but in this particular situation, some jobs and services are essential, and others are not. Being able to go to a restaurant or get a hair cut is a luxury, not a necessity. Not all jobs are created equal or of the same importance - that's just the cold hard truth.

Exactly, people are selfish and don't want to be inconvenienced. We have nobody to blame but ourselves for the never ending lockdown. I live in a "hot zone", and I can drive by Tim Hortons and see a group of guys sitting in the parking lot openly congregating (there were literally people with folding chairs just setting up shop).

There have been 20-40 people dying a week from covid for months. ICUs are near capacity with numbers that have doubled in only a month...

Without a lockdown this would be so much worse.

Lockdowns were rolled out poorly and stretched out too long and it has led to covid fatigue and anger from businesses that have been unfairly getting it worse than others.

They make themselves rich in many ways, there is insider information and kickbacks from Big pharm, these lockdowns are making very rich people even richer and they will certainly remember those that helped them when it is time to make donations for campaigns. Several politicians on both sides have done questionable stock deals during this pandemic. Look at the favoritism some politicians have had with regards to scandals as well. There are many ways the politicians can improve their wealth, lives, and have job security by playing ball and using the lockdowns and Covid as a power move.
