Going for the guillotine on rocked opponents

You think you were confused? You should have seen Arlovski. Never saw it coming.

Shit only just seen that mistake lol. I'm a dumbass. I'm going to leave it because it's plausible.

Sometimes it works

Sometimes it doesn't

I know Woodley was kicking himself for it but I think he did the right thing going for it. He was starting to punch himself out, I'm not as convinced he could have finished with strikes there

it's 50/50 sometimes people try to finish with strikes on a rocked opponent and fail where as they might've won if they went for a sub.

I'm sure it's effective more times than not but man just doesn't seem worth it to me. Unless the guy panic wrestles you and shoots while he is hurt I don't see it worth giving up position.

What about all of those times a fighter hurt an opponent and tried to finish him with a punch but missed and the opponent recovered? I'm more than positive that it's happened more often.

Punching must suck.

Guillotines, for those that haven't trained, aren't an easy sub to hit. They aren't the most technically difficult but they require a lot of strength if your positioning isn't literally perfect, and a lot of times what feels tight to you isn't going to tap the person being choked. Me personally when rolling I give a guillotine maybe 10-15 seconds of effort before transitioning to a new position.

I remember Belcher kept going for guillotines against Okami which was a stupid gameplan. Basically he kept pulling guard while going for them, Okami would escape and maintain top control to win a comfortable decision.
I had started following Alan's email list and webinars and such. He seems so savvy, i thought he'd be too much for Yushin the 2nd time. It was really frustrating to watch

From what I remember Alan was doing so well those few times there were stand up exchanges. He threw away the fight by giving up top position to a guy who specializes in smothering top control.

Lineker vs Rivera, but he tapped him moments later.

I'm laughing so hard at TS stipe/arvolski fail because it took me damn 5 mins to notice the mistake people were quoting.

Watch it again because you got it wrong.

Okami had a good grip on the single leg in every occasion. It's not that Belcher went for the guillotine so Okami could get on top. It was that Okami was taking Belcher down, so Alan tried his luck with the guillotine. In that order.

Awwww man. For a second I saw this thread and thought @wilKO was back, then I saw it's a necro and now I'm sad.

Lol what the fuck pan you really will do anything to start an argument huh.

It's stupid but if it works, a submission after rocking your opponent is one of the most boss moments in MMA.
