Glove Decision

I think bgv5 is the model everybody says to stay away from.

You clowns...

lets go over this again:

-bgv5: shit quality, shit padding
-bgv9: top of the line bag glove
-bgv1: standard work horse training glove
-bgv1b: same as above but with mesh on the palm, grip bar and tighter hand compaartment.

as far as fairtex gloves go, there little more to discuss.

I bet a certain someone will still have a question though....lol.

that someone is me!

so to confirm, the bvg1b has a tighter fit than the bgv1?

Yeah the breathable is a tighter fit than the non. I'm pretty sure it also has a grip bar while the regular bgv1 doesn't.

thanks, will definitely look into the breathables then. my concern is that checking and catching kicks is going to be more risky but i'm sure it will be fine.

I think the biggest complaint of mesh palms is in the clinch. Abrasive on your partner. Then There is the durability factor.

The ulnar ridge is also missing so you might get your 5th met jostled a bit more if you try to catch/parry a kick or your hand's a little off on a two-handed high kick block.

Wow....way too technical for me....lmao!!! ^This.

Heard some guys saying the bgv1b is bettee quality(leather, color) than the regular bgv1

]Yeah I feel it is definitely that way as well. It feels a lot more solid because of the tighter hand compartment. The padding itself feels improved. I'm not sure if it was a batch difference or a model difference but my original bgv1s are far stiffer

Can't compare it to the regular BGV1 but my BGV1B has higher quality as compared to my Twins in terms of leather, lining, look and feel. Also, I'm not sure if I can ever be comfortable with the Twins as it feels stuffy and very tight.

Since you are new to boxing, I assume you won't be doing much sparring? If that is so, then perhaps the BGV1B is what you would prefer. But do note that the padding is much more dense than the Twins which is the reason why I got the Twins...

Translation: "There's no foam on the pinky side of the glove so the pinky side of your hand might hurt if it gets kicked." :icon_lol:

Definitely batch differences. The quality can vary a bit on the BGV1's because so many of them are pumped out; the other Fairtex models, including the BGV1B, are produced in smaller numbers so the QC is a little bit better statistically. A well-made BGV1 is beautiful, a poorly made BGV1 is usable haha.

I actually like the Twins hand compartment, especially after it breaks in (takes forever but feels GREAT, almost semi-custom when it does -- like a favorite pair of dress shoes haha). Fairtex definitely has Twins beat leather-wise; lining and looks are subjective, build quality is different but equivalent if you know what I mean.

Is it safe to assume that is the case with Thai gloves only or just the BGV1/BGV1B?

Yup, that is why I mainly go for training gloves, along with very little sparring with my bro.
I jumped on the BGV1 when I saw it for 50USD, I'll probably get me a pair of BGV1Bs at some point.

Twins are also another pair I intend to try out, but for someone just properly getting into boxing who has bought 3 pairs already, (this site is too much of a bad influence, I'm already thinking about a pair of custom Top Boxers) it's just too much. I have no intention of dropping the sport, ever; but I'm not buying custom gloves until I get a lot of time with those first 3 pairs.

I couldn't find info on the type of foam used on the BGV1 or Boons. Can anyone direct me to a link or outline the differences? Thanks.

Just the BGV1B. Almost all other Thai gloves have the ulnar ridge padding; it's a typical feature of MT gloves

I personally like Twins a lot, but more for MT than boxing. The foam is EXCELLENT for sparring though as it's very forgiving on partners' faces.

BGV1 is triple layer: Soft/medium outside, dense middle, soft inside. Boon, I'm not so sure.

Check out the bolded sections, friend.
