Glove Decision

funny but i never actually weighed them til now lol.

L = 14oz
R = 14.4oz

so damn, not 16oz afterall!

Yup. Thats almost every thai brand glove I own. Very underweight. So many companies can get this right except thai companies..I don't know why.

All in all....alot of the issues from before haven't cropped up as much as the line now. Mostly just weight issues. Although some people have reported the left and right fitting very differently. Thats just Boon.

well, i like my boons just the way they are. next purchase will likely be a pair of the fairtex breathables with the tighter fit. anyone have experience with them?

you mean bgv1?

umm, i'm not sure actually. as far as i was aware the tight fit model had the mesh palm and is marketed as "breathable", but the one you just mentioned is a tight fit without mesh, which i would probably prefer!

so are there two tight fit models then (mesh and non-mesh)?

exuse me but i really dont know , if you do talk about bgv1 ( please verify it ) i just asked my thai friend and she said that the bgv1 run strong over all europe (except turkey and israerl that prefer twins ) and thailland and there is no complain about them . she told me also that the fairtex got the best QC then any other thai brand .
i also asked "ironwolf" before couple days what does he think about he's "fairtex bgv1 national pride" ( thailland design) and he very like them and satesfied from them.
so i hope i did answer your question and i didnt so i am very sorry pal.
i by my self really want to try them but i have more important thing to purchase right now .

no worries! i think there are two models we might be referring to

BGV1 - the standard workhorse fairtex glove
a BGV1B - same idea but a tighter fit and a breathable mesh palm

i think im looking at the BGV1B

hey Tug i will check it for you with my thai friend !

thanks mate!
hey man there is no change between these glove just that the bgv1 br are air gloves .
she also said that bgv1 standard receive better feedbacks and more durable as well.

that's great, thanks for checking. probably get the regular bgv1 then!

Well my Boons came in heavy. They are supposed to be 12oz, but one is 12.9oz and the other is 13oz. As Task said, Thai companies seem to have a tough time getting their weights correct. My Fairtex gloves are the only ones that are within 0.5oz of the correct weight (but they are BGV5s, so they suck in other ways :icon_lol: )

Overall, Boon seems to suffer from some quality issues. weights seem to be all over the place, and the logos on mine began to wear off after 2 weeks of use. Others have reported various other issues as well. They also have very short hand compartments so they are not good for people with long fingers. They do have great padding and wrist support though, which is why a lot of people like them, me included.

bgv5 is the mexican style?

They are the 'super sparring' glove. I don't think I would consider them Mexican style, but they certainly don't have the traditional Thai style either. Somewhere in between in my opinion, but i'm not too terribly familiar with Mexican style gloves.

just asked them if they're retro brown pair are bgv1s. they look cool

by the name "super sparring" i can understand that is suck glove lol

hello man ,
yes indeed 50 usd for this gloves is good price .
i have no hate for boon i like they gloves actually , but what disappoints is the facts that they have no measures , for examples i ordered 16 oz gloves and they arrive 14.6 oz and when i asked about it they said that oz is just size and not weight , i ordered 4.5 meter handwraps from them and they arrived 4m and they reply for it that no one done for this problem any problems , so they have good wrist support and good wraps material but its very annoying that they cant meet the conditions
that they made for them self .
i can recommend on boon they have good hand protection and very very good wrist support but they problems are too small relative to the good price you found .
good luck man !!

Thanks man, I hope I get good pairs. I understand how frustrating it would be to get such varying specs from what you originally ordered, it would upset me a lot too since I'm quite anal about getting stuff that is spot-on.

All in all Boon is a good glove....if you get a good pair. I got lucky and had no problems with mine except being underweight. Some people have had different problems. Its a crapshoot with them. Now about the powder issue.....I haven't heard about it in quite awhile....but even so...it really wasn't much of an issue. It went away after a few rounds on the bag. A lot of people complained but thats just how it is. A lot of people in this world want something to bitch about. Something as simple as powder....lol. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences with them.

Appreciate the info, looking forward to trying them. I'll certainly report back and probably compare them in a review to the Fairtexs as well.

i think the word on the street is that boon gloves are great but seem to be inconsistent and have rough quality control outside of thailand. i got a 16oz pair and love them, whereas some other people may have been unlucky. the wrist support and small hand compartment (on my pair) are definitely good features

I'm hoping for a good pair; I made sure to ask the vendor to double check the gloves before sending them out as international returns would be quite a hassle.
