I was going to stop watching glory altogether until I saw this weekends card.

The skill level was way higher from top to bottom compared to the many American cards they did.

Why does glory insist on force feeding us crappy American talent?

I know there is an American Muay Thai coach named Eric Haycraft that works as the talent scout for glory or something,

Is he behind this fuckery?

I'm tired of seeing D level talent on cards, I know they're trying to market to Americans, but it's painful.

If the striking skill that is being showcased is worse than MMA striking then people will just tune into MMA.

Why am I talking like payak?

Thoughts?

Money. They want(ed) to put US talent on US tv to draw the attention of the US audience. These guys are also much cheaper than the Euro/Asian fighters and don't actually have much less drawing power. It's all about the money.

American audiences are in general only interested in Americans.

Until the realize most of the American fighters are garbage.

The UFC's biggest draw is an Irishman...

I don't get this at all or even know that it is true. I'm an American combat sports fan who watches and wagers on a lot of MMA plus some kickboxing and boxing and I don't care at all if the fighters are Americans or not. I just like to see good fights, good production values and good support programming (like Countdown shows and interviews and such) that helps build engagement with the fighters and their back stories.

Gotta agree with this. GSP and Anderson aren't American and there two of the most notable figures in MMA.

We have had this convo a few times on this forum and from what I remember they crunched the data and there wasnt a significant correlation between an American card's success and its number of top tier fighters(who command a higher pay check). Therefore they dont spend money putting elite guys on every American card when they can get the same results going cheap. Cant really blame them if true.

Why most of glory events in USA are not good compared outside USA:

-Attendance want to see local fighters.

-TV stream and consomer want to show local fighters

-They are cheap compared to higher level fighters.

cost-benefit,they are cheap and sell more.

In europe people are not just interested on local talent(for sure the headliner event on the country will be the local star, for example, glory 25 milan with Petrosyan on main event, who is not a bad thing because euproe have al ot of countryes with a lot of excelent hometown names internationally recognized on the sport.

Attendance on europe want to see good fights and fighters, not just a flag under a guy chest.

Other than Schilling, what other US guys are a draw?

I don't buy this need to push US guys because it's a necessity. The UFC proves this wrong...

The UFC is a huge promotion. Attracting Americans is no longer their main priority because they already have a big american fan base. There trying to bring in viewers from all over the world. When Conor Mcgregor became a star it brought fans from Ireland. Anderson Silva Brazilian fans and so on.

But Connor is huge with American fans too. Same with GSP, Anderson, Wandelei, etc...

To act like Americans NEED American fighters to be a fan is disrespectful IMO and short sided. Ultimately they want a good show with entertaining fights and fighters that deliver action with some personality.

What's more important than American fighters is stories and narrative which Glory has absolutely none.

It's simple they can get away with it in the US

Don't try that Airforce vs. Navy shit in Amsterdam or London - chairs will be thrown

Don't worry, that gimmick was a Spike idea. We may see more of that in Bellator Kickboxing however.

UFC has been developing their brand for 20+ years. when they were coming up they relied on American stars carrying the show - Matt Hughes, Rich Franklin, Chuck Liddell...
