I probably love 300 as much as or more than anyone in this place, but come on fucker it doesn't even come close to Gladiator. Gladiator is one of the best movies of all time. Won an Oscar for Best Film and wasn't even political or drab AF.

Gladiator and Braveheart is a much more apt comparison.

Yup and I got braveheart but that might just be cuz i saw it first and the battles blew my mind.

Dude, no. NOoooo. Ridley Scot is one of the best cinematographers in film history, up there with Tarkovsky.

What Zack Snyder did was a gimmick. What Ridley Scott shoots is art. Even his movies that sucked....they were all gorgeous.
Whatever you say bro
Gimmick or not, it undeniably worked for that movie
Just bc he sucked later post 300/Watchman doesnt negate the inherent qualities of those movies.

And gladiator didnt have particularly great cinematography IMO for a Scott movie. Id take Last Boy Scout by Tony Scott as better in that regard, his bro
To each their own though, respect

Come on now. I like 300. Going to a sold out theater with my brother and watch drunk white boys throw hands in the parking lot after the movie was a special moment. But Gladiator was just on another level.

admittingly 300 probably had better cinematography (admit it, it was dope in that movie) but that's about it

Strength and Honor was my platoon motto in Afghanistan, gotta go Gladiator
The fucking legion mottos for infantry units are so played out. My douche squad leader got si vis pacem, para bellum on his arm.

Don't do that.

This is 2020 for Christ sakes

Thread inspired me to watch Gladiator again. The guy that plays the corrupt emperor is the same guy that plays the Joker. Great movie. So far its really good just like the first time. I'm actually enjoying it more than the last time I saw it because it seems the older and smarter you are, the more you appreciate the small things in it.

300. Like the Romans.

Lol, these two movies are in the same ballpark as Interstellar and Galaxy Quest are in the same ballpark.

I like both Gladiator and 300, but for different reasons. 300 has more in common with superhero movies than Gladiator imo and that's normal because 300 started out as graghic novel.

please.
Gladiator X10 better in every respect.
there's no scene in the 300 movies that compare to this.

For my money, Maximus is the GOAT movie protagonist/hero

Both were disappointments, but Gladiator. Gladiator was ruined by the love story, but the opening sequence is still one of the best of it's genre. I was hype for 300 since it was in the similar vein of Sin City, but it was more Spartacus-ish than what I was expecting at the time.

lol 100%. I saw the quote you posted and pulled a legit wtf face.

300 is almost all special effects and green screens. That isn't even really cinematography, it is special effects.

The shots in Gladiator are all about using actually great camera work.

Overall, I have seen 300 twice, don't need to again, and I did not see the Sequel.

Gladiator I can literally put on any time and be entertained.
