I'll give Burns a break for the Hooker loss. To me it was clear that his weight cut dramatically impaired his ability to take a punch. You just don't shut off like he did by a shot like that, even Hooker acknowledged that after that win. It reminded me of how Rose shut Joanna out with that punch in their first fight

Gilbert needs to polish his striking because he completely relies on his speed and athleticism advantage at WW. He has very little in terms of technical striking offense and defense.

As you can see in the gifs posted by OP Burns is way too short to box with a 6’0” Usman. Burns won’t have much on the feet with the huge 6’2” Chimaev. That is for sure. This is definitely not “one of the worst matchups for Khamzat”, but one of the best matchups for Chimaev when it comes to top ranked WW. Chimaev is going to dwarf Burns.

Yeah because people avoid him on the ground, he is definitely dangerous against a guy like Khamzat who likes to take people down. There is a reason Usman avoided going to the ground with him, even when he was getting hurt on the feet at the beginning of the fight.

Don't get me wrong, I think Khamzat is the shit, and will beat everyone at WW, but beating Burns is a big step up, and means a lot at WW, he isn't some scrub like some are making him out to be. List all the guys who are tougher matchups for Khamzat? Pretty much everyone else he can take down at will and smash on the ground, Gilbert's BJJ at least makes the grappling interesting. If he can negate that and make it a striking battle, who knows how Khamzat holds up, his striking looks good so far, but grappling is obviously where he feels the most comfortable.

I think Burns may get Meerschaerted. But that's more due to Chimaev's ridiculous punching power than him having a glass jaw. Reckon he was depleting himself to make 155, so hopefully it's not as bad at 170.

A glass cannon is someone who is all offence and gets ko'd/quits when their offence is shut down. look at Gerald Meerschaert, Overeem.

He's an aggressive fighter, you can't just label guys who press forward and go in the pocket as chinny. I guarantee if he stayed on the outside throwing leg kicks he probably wouldn't get dropped. I feel rules should better reward the guys that take risks to press and control the fight more.
