Giant Silva did actually ok in Pride Fc

He REALLY didn't look like he wanted to be in there. One of the few fighters I felt genuine sad for. It was obviously just for the money, and he took some fucking shots.

Akebono and Sentoro were the same IMO. Along with Emmanuel Yarborough (R.I.P). The guys at Pride sucked for that.

It woud've been fun if he started in the UFC in the mid-90s and fought other giants like Paul Varelens and Jon Hess (the main in my AV).

duh.. we know who John Hess is..

The almighty conceiver of S.A.F.T.A. the deadliest fight system to date.

People might think i am trolling but let is just take a look first

- He was a former pro wrestler (just like Brock Lesnar)
- He started his mma career 2003 when he was 39 years old (how many mma fighters are starting their career at 40)?
- Nobody wanted to fight him in stand up
- He was way to tall yes but at the end Shaw O Neil would do worse
- He has two wins over Sentoryu and Akebono by submissions

So yes he was bad but he was aggressive in stand up. He would beat Hong Man Choi back then.

He used to live in NYC and was the doorman at Scores Gentleman's club on the West side when I worked the door at Crobar Night club next door. I used to see him every weekend. His face looks soo old and he looked like a creature from LOTR. Very nice guy though.

The man is a legend.

And hey, if you watch Andre the Giant's one MMA mixed rules bout, Giant Silva is actually a way better fighter.

Never seen that, but Andre was basically a physical wreck for most of his career, wasn't he?

Basically disabled.

To be fair to him as well I think he was clearly on the downside during a lot of his MMA career,

Heath did likely show him too much respect and would probably have kneed him into oblivion on the ground but Silva definitely looks way more mobile in that fight than alot of his latter ones.

My memory of him is grunting like a confused caveman when Minowa was beating him up.

lol @ doing "ok"

Dude was not built for combat,to put it lightly.

Are you talking about that andre/chuck wepner "fight"? That was obviously pro wrasslin, not a shoot.
Andre in the late 70s early 80s was still able to move pretty good, very athletic. I would take him over Giant Silva.

Truly one of the underappreciated greats

The Rampage "He whooped my ass!" clip had me in tears the first times I watched that one, back then I didn't even know the context of that line but it was perfect.
The best early comical MMA video (the early Joe Son and Datsik highlights were also nuts)

Does Anyone know he has instagram or facebook? How does he look today?

He did work in some NYC nightclubs doing security after he retired. Not sure about now.
