Getting rich is really hard man

Shouldve worked on fixing that marriage and you'd be a dual income household with a much more favorable position.

You're fucked because of that failed marriage.

There are countless people older than you who are forced to live with roommates in NYC because rents are so expensive. You're at least doing better than them.

To be honest being in that relationship cost me more than anything

When I was starting out working at my first real job the guy who sat near me was making around 100k a year and I thought that was a lot of money since i was just starting out. I then overheard a phone call with him bitching about how much money he's paying in alimony/child support and then realized this poor fuck actually was doing worst than me financially which scared the living shit out of me knocking up some girl or having a wife leave you. This guy spent all of these years to get a half decent salary and bang....giant debt called exwife and kid.

My youngest is 17... one more year of marital bliss and I avoid child support forever. ;)

30 years old.

I’m working my ass off out here and can’t get comfortable to save my life.

I’m a hardworking talented mortgage advisor in Toronto. Will make around $130,000 this year Canadian. That isn’t even 100k USD this year but I’m outperforming the rest of my team.

Own one condo I’m renting out and the other one I live in.

Gotta pay child support my ex and support my kid.

Can’t afford a house in this city because they are starting at 1 million.

Can’t afford a new BMW because half my income goes to taxes.

Most Canadians are surviving on a lot less money.

It’s just hard to make it in this city. Canadian doctors and lawyers don’t even make a huge amount of money on average.

I want a lake-house overviewing the water and other nice things. I’m willing to work hard and sacrifice. Just don’t know how.

Just a regular prick trying to make it.

I don't know how it works there, but the best strategy for moving up and getting paid more here in Silicon Valley is to change jobs every few years or start your own consulting firm and start making money off of others people's work as well as your own. Personally I went the self employed route and I've never looked back.

hey steve universe is back.

how are you buds?

You don't make 130k and post these kind of threads - especially the one you were complaining about no more fully subsidized university tuition and now complain about taxes taking half your income. It's antithetical

Come on man. It's a joke. I love my wife and kids. Did you leave your sense of humor at home today? :D

I don’t know if you’re being serious or not.

You should be helping that kid out financially any way you can. Don’t leave the day to day tab for mom to pick up.

What are you talking about? I meant after next year she'll be 18 and responsible for herself. I've been married for 22 years and my kids live with us. Well one of them do, the other one is off at College. I think you got me mixed up with someone else in the thread.

You’re not gonna help out your 18 year old kid?

She'll be starting college next year. So yeah, she's gonna be just fine. Here's a pic of the BMW I just got her for her birthday:

My problem is I keep scaling my cost of living with every increase in income like a dumbass. I need to fix that.
It’s hard though with rising rent etc and no other decent towns to live in

This is the worst humble brag in history.

First mistake was knocking someone up so young. They'll be taking a percentage until the kid is 18. But I hope you're being a good father.

Second mistake is worrying about the cost of possessions. Renting a condo is a slow burn for profit, but you don't need to worry about a million dollar house. In fact, if you're single, you should live in a cheap apartment. Stop worrying about appearances. Get the cheapest apartment you can find and save yourself a ton of money.

Stop worrying about a car. Buy a ten year old Toyota/Mazda/Honda. Pay cash. Save on gas and property taxes, if those taxes are a thing in Canada.

Stop eating out. Cook cheap food at home.

Making 100k a year when you could live on 25k or less is a good path to general wealth if your career trajectory is upward and you stop spending money on unnecessarily flashy shit for the sake of appearances.

Believe it or not, most millionaires get there from being frugal with similar incomes. One of my closest friend has a multi-millionaire dad that drives a mid-2000s Honda Accord and lives in a relatively cheap apartment in a decent part of town. He made his money working his way up the ladder and living like he was poor. He's only 50, but he's retired and does whatever the fuck he wants.
