Getting De-moted

i have a buddy who received his blue belt at one school then moved

he later received his purple belt at his new school

then he moved back home and the instructor demoted him back to blue

meanwhile: the guy had been kicking ass at blue belt level for quite some time, so competes at purple anyway

disrespectful to both the student, and to the school that promoted him

but my buddy doesn't care. He just likes to roll

I thought I addressed why saying "No Jesus No Heaven" isn't calling you a bad person. Anybody who has ever seriously discussed religion has had that conversation. The official stance of Christianity is: many good people won't go to Heaven, because they're not believers. That is their belief. Many religions take the exact same stance: in order to get whatever divine gift they promise, you kind of have to believe in their God and their teachings. It's a package deal.

The flipside to this is that a non-believer isn't necessarily a bad person, even according to Christians. They might be wonderful people, they just don't get into Heaven. So that really kind of undermines the whole "it's a statement of superiority" business. Anyone who takes it as such is making an assumption that the guy thinks you're a bad person.

However, if he had added "neener neener neener" on the end of the sig, that'd definitely tip the scales in your favor.



Oh I understand why people get butthurt over stuff like that. It's because even non-believers like to think that they're going to Heaven, if it exists.

This is going to be my last post on this because I can tell people are getting upset at the thread hijack.

First, I wasn't the guy who got all upset about this. Go back earlier, it was someone else flipping out cussing.

Second, I have tried to be clear and stick to 1 point: You should expect people to be offended with a statement such as the one in the sig. It implies certain things and there are people on one end of that implication who are going to be upset by it. I'm not trying to argue right or wrong here, or the right to have a belief or not. Just that if you go around outwardly making statements like that don't be surprised when people get offended.

And really, why does this offend you so much? Your whole arguement has been that you don't understand why people react to this, yet you are equally if not more offended that they would have a reaction at all. Why don't you just let it go.

Promotions are based on skill. Really, ranks are for competitive purposes as much as anything. If you're friend's skills didn't diminish, I don't even know what de-moting someone accomplishes. Would he compete as blue belt and just absolutely wreck dudes?

So just because that's the "official stance of Christianity" no one's allowed to be annoyed and/or offended when someone's shoving that viewpoint down their throat? He knows what he's doing by having that quote as his sig, he's inviting anyone who reads his posts to derail whatever thread he's posting in.

Good thing I can't see sigs from the mobile version of the site or I'm sure I'd be gettin real pissy at everyone's sig I didn't like and using my inner angst as an excuse to derail all of f12.
