RIP Legend.
Sounds like only Frazier died prematurely. Average life for an African-American is 73 years old. They lived about right for their era.
stats are fairly easy to find, I looked them up, and although there are varying stats, they give you an idea. Average boxer 67 average black male 71, I think i saw average football player was 77 which surprised me. I think the average marathoner only lived slightly longer than average too which again surprised me.You're talking about an average life-span, which probably is negatively skewed by higher infant mortality and all-cause mortality in other age cohorts. There are also class factors. I'd be more curious about the average lifespan of African-Americans who are their same wealth bracket.
To be even better controlled, we would need to see the mortality rates of combat and high-impact athletes (e.g., football) vs. non-combat/impact athletes, compared across age cohorts and controlled for sex, race, and wealth.
I'm surprised he was a whisker away from getting yet another title shot at lennox and only a disputed decision stopped him. It's just as good he retired though, no reason to go on, he had more money than he could ever spend and won the big prize already. I don't think I would have wanted to see him with Lennox.Legend, RIP. I don't know if anyone followed him on Twitter but he was an absolute gentleman, very humble and deferential to the other greats of his era.
The winner of Foreman- Briggs was to face Lewis and why Foreman didn't get the decision in that match remains a mysteryI'm surprised he was a whisker away from getting yet another title shot at lennox and only a disputed decision stopped him. I never watched that one either but I've heard about it being a bad decision. It's just as well, George didn't need to do anymore. My opinion, Lennox would have had the power to put him away. George had a great chin and didn't go down once in his comeback but that doesn't mean it couldn't have happened. That or just take another beating. He was taking a lot of punches when he fought the better heavyweights. The winner of Foreman- Briggs was to face Lewis and why Foreman didn't get the decision in that match remains a mystery

Here is an old clip about his fight with Moorer.
