Generation Kill - Underrated?

I own it and it was a decent series. Probably just a little underrated.

Loved it.

I'm a military member and I will tell you the show was extremely realistic.
How they portrayed certain leadership and the heirarchy was very well done.

I thought you were talking aboutthe band....Rob Dukes' (singer for Exodus) side project.........carry on.

Captain America stood out for me. Apart from his hilarious antics he was clearly insane and him being based of a real person is quite worrying. ASkars was brilliant in it as well.

unfortunately he could have been a composite of a number of people I served under in the US army. I knew that the army being so large basically had to promote morons like that just to keep the machine going, but I'd always thought the Marine's officer and NCO corp would have been better since it's such a smaller organization and competition for promotion was pretty intense from the Marines I met.

People like that are why i always tell people, if you really want to join the military and you have the ASVAB score for it, join the air force. I'm sure they have their share of idiots too but I'd like to think they are fewer and farer between.

By the way, I thought it was a very good series and very underrated if you compare it to band of brothers which was also very good and received a lot of acclaim, GK should have received at least some of the same accolades but I never saw it happen.

I really hate when we pull out of "opinion dicks" to label what is better than the other. Band of Brothers and Generation Kill are both amazing mini-series, and are probably the best of the best in their respective genres, but I can't say with a straight face one is definitely better than the other.

agreed, but for the most part GK has just slipped into obscurity while BoB has taken on this almost GOAT mini-series status. A lot of it had to do with the hype created by Tom Hanks prior and the fact they inserted the interviews with the real Easy company guys really made you face the reality of it all.

I'm not saying GK deserved the same accolades as BoB, but it did deserve more than it received, which was basically none at all.

Old thread alert!! I think this has to be on my list of shows to watch now. It's free on Prime and I've NEVER seen this show! I thought BoB and The Pacific were both amazing.

Great show though

I don't think so at all... Not a god damn thing happened in that Mini Series...

I keep waiting for something to happen. But 3 1/2 episodes into it and nothing has happened. It's like 1 giant build up to nothing so far.

But maybe that's the point. Maybe it's just showing that a lot of military is driving around and waiting and being bored as shit?

I mean it's good in it's own way in showing leadership and the day to day life. But I feel like I'm watching the same episode over 3 times in a row now. Leadership is a bunch of idiots and the grunts are getting restless for action.

It's not all negative, I don't mean to be all down on it. I enjoy it and will finish it for sure. But it's not BoB, not even close IMO.

Just finished watching this and thought it was a masterpiece. Imo on the level of HBO's big war epics. Anyone else seen this?

Awesome mini series. I’ve brought it up many times over the years in ‘best ever’ tv show threads

Loved GK, a great look at the side of the military and war that doesn't get shown to the general public. That's probably why it never got as much mainstream attention. The racial banter, dark humor and all around un-PC jokes are something your average millennial white collar worker would understand

One of the things I like that they did was try and take an un-biased view of the situation like, ‘let’s drop the audience in the middle of this, unfiltered, and let them make up their own minds..’

‘The Wire’ was kind of like that too -and I believe the same team that did The Wire also did GK

Rudy was played by the actual 1st Recon Marine. Interesting factoid.

Great mini series and probably the most realistic out of all of the Iraq War movies/shows I've ever watched. Great representation of the Marine Corps. Officer bashing was a little extreme though. I have to imagine that the real officers in 1st Recon probably weren't as bad as they acted in the show.

The show was based off a book written by a Rolling Stone reporter that was embedded with them.... Probably some first hand observations.

They did show some good O's in the show too.

Even enlisted men from 1st Recon and Lt Fick said the officer bashing was too severe in the movie. There's a hint of truth but mostly it was way above the reality.
