General MMA Discussion & Future Lines- 2020

Considered hedging when the stripper got up to +165. Glad I didn't.

Although the horrendous scorecards (how the hell was round 2 not 10-8 Lupita on all 3, and how did one idiot gave Vanessa round 3 and 2 gave her round 4?!) made it slightly more of a sweat than it should have been.

That was a 49-45 fight that was scored 49-46, 48-47, and 47-47.

Yep, those cards were pretty weird. Was an entertaining scrap though. I laid the chalk on Godinez but Demopoulos fought her ass off despite being overmatched. Love the open scoring.

I hate open scoring, and think it's laughable that this would contribute to better scorecards, which the main event was a prime example of. No one wants to be the guy who has the fight as a shut-out, with the champion having no chance of coming back on the cards only 3 stanzas in, heading into the championship rounds.

With scorecards only revealed at the end, that's not an issue, since the doubt can remain in a viewer and fighter's mind. Not so with open scoring.

Thus, judges found excuses to only score round 2 10-9 Lupita (was there a more blatant 10-8 round imaginable?) and to give round 3 to Vanessa.

Which I also hate; when fighter A gets their ass kicked relentlessly by fighter B for the first few rounds, but then gets their ass kicked marginally less in the next round, doing a little better, that doesn't mean they actually won the round.

I’m not convinced that the cards last night had as much to do with open scoring as they did with pure incompetence, but maybe you’re onto something. I like the open scoring format myself though. It has worked ok in Glory and in Invicta. I really wish the big shows would go to the 5 judge format like Glory did though. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

vettori at -200 vs 40 yr old Jacare looks like a steal!

Is TIll/Hermansson going to be 5 rounds?

Because if so, why would anyone not bet the house on Jack @ +odds where he is right now?

Till looked okay against Whittaker, but I think Jack gets him down eventually, and the grappling disparity between the two is even greater than the striking disparity.

It took a fucking BOMB from Jared to knock Jack down and to finish him, and Jared arguably has better TDD than Till.

I think vettori should be like a -300 favourite. I don't see what old and slow Souza has to offer him at this point.
I don't know about - 300 but definitely close to that range. - 200 is nice. He should win.

Think you’re tripping at -300. Even -200 is iffy against Jacare considering that Marvin likes to grapple. I mean, Jacare did pretty good against Jan who is the current LHW champ lol.

I will be looking to bet Jacare via decision or sub honestly, Marvin is too pillowfisted for Jacare... and what is he gonna do, control Jacare on the ground??? Maybe it will be a clinch war where yeah, Marvin might be just the more athletic guy nowadays.

Hey guys! I made a YT channel where I give my MMA predictions as well as my bets. I've done pretty well betting on MMA so I decided to make a channel so I can help you make money too. I have a background in MMA as well, have done years of Muay Thai and BJJ and still train BJJ except during Covid so it's helped me figure out which fighter is stronger in most fights. I put 2U on Thiago and put him in a 4 fight parlay.

Here's my prediction on the ME, Thiago Santos vs Glover Teixeira. Enjoy! Hit me with a like and subscribe and comment whatever you'd like to see more of and i'll do my best to provide.

Thanks!

Just keep it standing and outvolume the old and slow Jacare. There have been plenty of fights where Marvin keeps it standing. He only takes it to the ground when he feels he has an edge there. Besides, Jacare doesn't even initiate the grappling anymore, he doesnt have the cardio to go for takedowns. Yeah he did pretty good vs Jan all things considered but he wont be able to just hold Vettori against the fence like he did vs Jan. I think Vettori might beat Jan tbh. Vettori also did pretty good vs Adesanya. Well I hope the price goes up on Vettori, then I will unload.

Blaydes $1.33 over Lewis
Looks like a full bankroll job

Why? Lewis is an annoying fighter to try to beat with grappling, as Jared Rosholt, Gabriel Gonzaga, Roy Nelson, Shamil Abdurakhimov, and Alexey Oleynik all found out. At least three of those guys at the time, Gonzaga, Nelson, and Oleynik had comparably dangerous topgames to Blaydes.

The fight being 5 rounds also works against Blaydes. He has excellent 3 round cardio, but as the Volkov fight showed, he can't keep up his wrestling for all 5 rounds, fading badly in the last two. And as Lewis has shown time and again, he always retains his monstrous power, no matter how tired or late in the contest.

Lewis will have plenty of opportunities to stand with Blaydes and crack his chin unless Blaydes can finish him from the top quickly, which exactly one person, Daniel Cormier, has ever managed to do. (And Lewis is at least a slightly better fighter now than he was then thanks to his weight-loss, better mobility and even ground game/grappling)

If he can't do that, you think Blaydes avoids being knocked out for 10+ minutes and possibly even all 25 minutes well over 75% of the time, as implied by the 1.33 odds? I'm far from convinced.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Kay Hansen - Cory McKenna fight? I think the fight will hinge upon whether or not Hansen can get takedowns. If Hansen can consistently take McKenna down she will win. If she can't, then McKenna probably wins the striking exchanges and the fight.

It's probably a pass for me, as I think Hansen is (rightly) a slight favorite.
