General Gaming Discussion, v3

Going to start Oblivion soon. Any tips? I will likely be doing a warrior/skirmisher type with a split between melee and ranged. Unlikely to pick up much in the way of spells for the first play through.

I wouldn't go ranged tbh. Shit only feels effective/satisfying for like the first 2 levels, after that you'll just be backpedalling and spamming arrows at every enemy. Thankfully Skyrim fixed that shit and made archery lethal/boss

That said maybe there's a mod that fixes it in Oblivion

I was a archer/mage for Oblivion. I had an insta-death spell at higher levels that was fucking boss. Went about like some dim mak master, dropping fools with one touch.

Started playing dragon age inquisition and have to say it sucks ass so far. "Go collect some iron and 20 plants." How about go fuck yourself.

Yep and it only gets worse in that aspect. The main storyline is like 3 or 4 quests and the rest is gathering shit in huge empty maps with a couple enemies sprinkled inbetween.Plays a bit like a single player MMO. Huge dissapointment. Bioware is on a roll with their shitty games since they teamed up with EA.

Notwithstanding the last two posts, given a choice between Dragon Age: Inquisition or Far Cry 4 what would you guys pick for PS3?

Probably FC4 for PS3 since it's pretty much Far Cry 3.5.

But I'm bit of a graphics whore so i wouldn't want to play DA with worse graphics.

Been playing a fuckton of the new M&B X-Pac. Also downloading every DOS game ever made (eXoDOS) for the sake of archiving more than actually playing (though I do have my eyes on a few games).

random question, but roughly how much bandwidth does a typical online multiplayer game require? I'm never sure how much I should dial back my torrents.

Personally I'd shut your torrents off whilst playing.

Don't come in this thread very often. Has anyone been talking about the game of the year awards going on at publications around the net in here? I was thinking about creating a new thread for that topic, but I don't think it would get a lot of traffic.

You're wrong. I was a Khajiit ranger for my first character in Oblivion and I was eviscerating enemies with my bow and arrow. If you get your Sneak high you can crit like crazy, you can zoom and slow down after Journeyman and with Khajiit racial ability you can see in the dark. It's the Oblivion equivalent of a spec ops agent. Night vision with stealth kills.

Also you can Paralyze and Knockdown enemies quite often with it and the Paralyze and Knockdown % ignores resistances too.

But a game surely doesn't require....say 10Mb up/down to function properly and having good ping is more a factor of geography than anything.

But surely you don't need all that porn tonight? A couple movies should be enough.

Ping isn't the only consideration. For some reason, with some modems/routers, you may experience some packet loss/throttling when you have multiple connections going. I've noticed my Belkin doing this, and the most notorious program to throttle packets on me was Ventrilo. On several occasions I'd be talking with friends, answering them, and so on, then 5 minutes later they'd query aloud if I was there. None of the outgoing packets had been sent. Then, eventually, they'd all go at the same time and I could hear myself through their headsets as everything I'd said in the past 5 minutes happened all at once.

So yeah, I'd turn off your torrents if you're doing something active like a shooter. Turn-based stuff takes less bandwidth.

good shit, ty

I should mention that better routers are obviously better at handling stuff. If you're not having issues running your games & torrents at the same time I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Spent 10 hours on Christmas day playing Street Rod. When I get some time off I'm going to start Laser Squad.
