General Gaming Discussion, v3

Nobody does rpg's like Bethesda...so stick with Bethesda...try Oblivion, some say its better than skyrim(I disagree, but it's still great)...Fallout was garbage at release for ps3 but have been patched...even if they are still buggy, they are too good not to play...Dark Souls are very good games if you want non-Bethesda rpg...

well thats not true. Bioware, CDPR(who everyone is expecting to take the thrown), and a few others

Has anyone played The Evil Within on PC? I've been playing the demo and I don't understand the complaints about aspect ratio and FPS limit I've read. In the options you can disable letterbox mode to get rid of the black bars and can set the FPS limit to 60 with Vsync. Can someone explain?

I really appreciate all the replies, fellas. Just ordered New Vegas ultimate edition, and Oblivion Game of the year edition. DLC heavy!

I'm also planning on getting into dark souls soon as well.

What's up with dragon's dogma? Quick synopsis/gameplay explanation?

Fight GIANT monsters.
Explore an amazingly beautiful world.
The BEST combat system ever in a RPG (I seriously wish developers would take note).
The best day/night cycle I've ever experienced in a game (When night comes you genuinely are frightened because it gets DARK and the enemies get harder).
Most underrated game of last gen.

Here's a few links to some of the threads on here about it.

The combat system in Dragon's Dogma changed the way RPGs will play forever

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen - If you missed it buy it now.

If you do but it, buy the Dark Arisen edition. It comes with a whole "expansion pack" part that should add another 40ish hours to the game after you finish the 40+ hour main story.

I'm sooooo glad I gave this one another chance after not liking the demo. It's easily one of my favorite games of all last gen. The demo just threw you in to the fire way too quickly without much of an explanation of things.

Agree about bethesda, Oblivion is my all time favorite game

So, hopefully I get enough replies so I won't have to make a thread, but here goes!

I need some new Ps3 games! I've refound my love for rpgs since getting skyrim last year, and really need to add some games to my collection that are similar.

I've heard that fallout 3 and New Vegas are literally unplayable with the amount of bugs in the game. How true is this? Really interested in those.

Any other recommendations would be great! I really enjoy open world RPGs.

Bethesda/Obsidian patched the vast majority of the bugs, and both games are fine now. PC gamers also get the fan patches too, that fix even more. Both are awesome.

Just my opinion of course...Bethesda games get the simple things we take for granted right...being able to play 1st or 3rd person, true open world, being able to create custom hybrid classes...many complaints people make about other games are stuff you could do in Bethesda games...

You get caught stealing and that person sends mercenaries after you to teach you a lesson...having bounty levels for different cities...you went on a rampage in a city, next time you are there the bells go off and everyone in that city wants to kill you...I could go on for awhile naming things...

Keep in mind that Oblivion was released five years before Skyrim...so some things won't be as polished...and IMHO you may want to play Fallout 3 before New Vegas, but it isn't required...hope you enjoy them...

You don't have ps plus? They gave dragon dogma dark a and demon souls for free last year or the year before...

They might still have the dragon dogma demo on the psn...worth getting to sample it...

I'm not sure about playing Bethesda's RPGs in third person. Yeah, you can, but it looks more like someone hacked the code, a la Mirror's Edge, than a proper mode.

The Dragon's Dogma demo is awful. I've seen a few people say it put them off the game. Dead Space's demo was the same for me.

I missed the game on PSN, so I'm hoping it gets a nice discount at some point, as I suspect waiting for a repeat of it being free is a futile and stupid gesture.

I switch back and fourth between 1st and 3rd...sometimes you want to see how your character looks like with his/her new armor...

Is it awful? When it was released one of my friends got the demo and was raving about it...at best it gives you an idea of how the combat works?

I hated missing free games in the past so now I just stamp all free games and decide at a later date if to download...at least that way the games are in your library...

I think the demo sucked because of how much it throws at you right away. Its just WAY too much stuff to take in at once. I think it actually hurt the sales of DD honestly. If it wasn't for PS+ and the real want to play a RPG at the time I would have NEVER gave it a second chance.

I do the same, but I find it impossible to play the game in third person. They did some work on it for Skyrim, but it still feels like an after thought. I couldn't imagine trying to actually play the game that way, and I generally greatly prefer third person to first.

I feel the same way. I'd get fucking destroyed by enemies if I tried to play in 3rd mostly.

Also domefavors, no I don't have a ps+ yet. I feel like I don't enjoy enough games to warrant the purchase I guess? I'm very, very picky.

Why do you think I should play fallout 3 beforehand? Story context?

Found this that pretty much explains it...

New to the Fallout series, should I start with Fallout 3 or New Vegas? (self.Fallout)
submitted 1 year ago by xkathmandu
I've always loved Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series and I think Skyrim is probably my favorite game. But I've heard a lot about Fallout and was thinking I'd give it a try. Should I get Fallout 3 or New Vegas? Do I need to play Fallout 3 first to get the story of New Vegas? I never quite understood the relationship between the two. Is New Vegas an expansion? But I understand it has expansions of its own? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

New Vegas and Fallout 3 are two separate games. They both have their own expansions as well. I would advise getting Fallout 3 first and then get New Vegas. It think it makes you appreciate the changes made to New Vegas while also appreciating the uniqueness of FO3. The stories are entirely separate and have two different protagonists. I hope you get them both as they are some of my favorite games of all time!

I couldn't explained it any better than you did.

I agree, id just add that FO3 should be played first because the features added in NV make a huge difference and it is hard to go back to FO3 after.
That being said FO3 has a great story and is very dynamic in its own right.
Only because of improvements made to the latest release might sully your experience by playing Fallout 3 after...kinda how Skyrim improved on Oblivion...but obviously you already played Skyrim so you can't change that...just friendly advice, it isn't a requirement...

It would be like playing the newest GTA game and then playing an older GTA after...features and mechanics won't be as good as the newer sequel so you don't fully appreciate what came before it...

Yeah, try playing GTA V and then go back to Vice City, where everyone had shovel hands and gangsters couldn't swim. Awesome games still, but they add so much stuff each time out.

Started another vanilla Fallout 3 play-through yesterday. Amazing that after beating the game and all DLC 3 times or more i can still get invested into a new play-through.

Amazing game.

Going to start Oblivion soon. Any tips? I will likely be doing a warrior/skirmisher type with a split between melee and ranged. Unlikely to pick up much in the way of spells for the first play through.
