Yeah except that isn't true. That is absolutely the first thing that comes out of the mouth of every MAGA or conservative- "well you don't even know what a woman is." It comes popping out when it absolutely has nothing to do with the conversation. The narrative coming out of conservatives is massively disproportionately about transgender issues. Look up how many anti-trans laws are in every state and the Federal government right now by conservatives- they are obsessed.

The far left is mostly the ones who are obsessed with identity, not the center left, while the trans obsession is thick throughout conservatives from influencers to conservative media to right politicians.

A lot of center left people like me have respect for the rights and choices of others, but are cautious about trans in women's spaces, like sports, bathrooms, etc. I think we have to be careful about legally classifying someone to another sex for a number of reasons, and don't see it in black and white like you and the people on the far left do. I don't support society haphazardly jumping in with biological men in women's spaces. I don't like those who are activists for this though because they are like you- they are just hating on trans people and acting like they only want what's reasonable; there isn't a reason to mock or humiliate them to try to get trans people out of women's spaces. There are other ways of going about that if your intentions are honest.

I don't believe many people would actually have a reason to go dress in opposite sex clothes unless that was their internal experience in life- that they felt like the other gender. There are huge consequences for doing that, which is why the suicide rate is so high among them. How would your family, friends, and community react if you had done that, and how would it have affected you? Think about it.

As far as the video, there was actually no reason to say what that the Rep said. He could have just left off the reference to gender when he said the name. For me, I don't personally think it is any skin off my teeth to call someone what they want to be called, but I get that some people may be uncomfortable with that; but you have other options, like referring to them without a gender reference. Intentionally calling them something they don't want to be called is just being a dick for no reason, plain and simple.

I worked in a women's prison where they let trans (biological males) in, and honestly it was terrible- I don't believe in that. But that doesn't mean I should disrespect them or be an asshole to them. The cops and staff at the prison can't call them by male pronouns or they get into trouble, but they all have an option- they can call the person inmate Smith, they don't have to say he or she or ms or mrs, and I think that's fair. There is no reason to force it down anyone's throat to call them "she" but there also is no reason to be a dick to them when you don't have to be.

We just don't give a fuck, and would like to go back to not having to give a fuck. Everyone should have the right to live however they like, and fuck whoever they like, and wear whatever they like. What they DON'T have a right to do is compel others to play along with their confusion, or fetish, or fantasy or whatever the case may be.

The reason this issue often gets brought up in right vs left debates is honestly because it's such low hanging fruit. You have these people who wanna preach about the economy, and pretend to have the moral high ground on every issue, and claim to be the side that supports science... but they can't just be honest and tell the truth on the most basic question... ask them to define what a woman is and they tie themselves in a knot trying to tiptoe around it. I tend to agree. There’s curiosity and then there’s obsession. It seems like conservatives are particularly obsessed with that population of people. I don’t know any other group that is as preoccupied with them or who feel as compelled to implicate themselves. I think you might be surprised by what actually goes on with the majority of trans people. I have gotten to know them pretty well because I'm a therapist, and I've had clients that were transgender.

Objective reality is one thing, subjective reality is another, and both make up one's reality; others just can't see the subjective part. Despite what makes their external biology, they can internally experience something entirely different, and it doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with perversion. It also is not a delusion; it doesn't fit the psychiatric definition of a delusion.

A gender dysphoria diagnosis requires clinically significant distress that disrupts a major life area- like you are messing up your work life or have no social life due to the distress of your gender conflict (without it, there is no diagnosis possible). That is true of virtually all mental illness- they necessarily require pathology (to be a DSM diagnosis I mean), so someone who is transgender and goes about their life without it being a major problem has no mental illness. They couldn't because there is no pathology, it wouldn't even make sense. I know weirdos and perverts exist that dress up like that, but you can't throw that on all of trans people.

A medical doctor I worked with that was trans (and was pretty normal if you knew her) recently committed suicide; imagine going all the way through medical school to make your life better and ending up committing suicide.

Those kinds of consequences are why I always just ask people to try to respect others without judgement. The far left and a lot of trans activists are just idiots, and they are partially to blame for the situation because they are disrespectful of people who are inexperienced and uncomfortable with the trans issue, but we still need to try to be cool with everyone that isn't harming us. We can't go around being pricks to every trans person just because those people are idiots.

People who are gaming the system usually stick out like a sore thumb. People who are legit trans usually act pretty normal for what they feel inside- they aren't out to start shit because they get dumped on a lot anyway, and it's deeply personal and private for them. The people I've seen in therapy are usually pretty earnest about their situation- they aren't arrogant and entitled like the trans activists on YouTube. Someone who acts like that doesn't deserve any consideration. The problem is people hating on ALL trans people, that's the only thing I object to. I know for a fact there are perfectly cool trans people. It's like anything else- there are good and bad people within every group.

The left actually is changing on this as we speak. Gavin Newsome (the governor of CA) recently started his podcast with Charlie Kirk as a guest- and straight up agreed with Kirk that trans in women's sports was really unfair, and other Dems (not all but some) came out and agreed with him after the fact. The trans adds that Trump ran all of the time changed the election, and the Dems know now they are going to have to be honest about that situation if they want to win national elections.
