Social Gays can now donate blood!

I'm no HIV expert and said as much but isn't HIV undetectable for a time after infection? What about, for example, people who use that HIV blocker thats always advertised on TV? They are infected but test negative, no? Like I said, I'm no HIV expert. I grew up in a time where people got HIV from infected blood. It happened.

The other weird thing is pretending zero straight people engage in anal sex, and that all straight people that might have anal sex are monogamous.

That is weird. Who did that?

I'm sorry but HIV infection rates are much higher in the male gay community than anywhere else. There's a reason why this is a topic.

Gay males have a disproportionate percentage of AIDS infection. I guess we're not trusting the science on this one

Luckily the blood stays purple so you will know if they are giving you the homosexual blood.

I thought it was clear in 2023 that any statistic that reinforces a negative stereotype is racist and false.

You do realize tests aren't 100% accurate and there is a very good reason why they didn't accept it in the first place? The risks outweight the benefits and unless tests have dramatically improved that remains the case.

Seems like just another case of feelings trumping science yet again.

The reason is that the ban predates the tests, and was never lifted due to bigotry.

What science are you referring to, your homophobe bro science?

HIV prevalence is averages, not individuals. Not all gay men have HIV. If you want a ban on gay men donating due to a higher prevalence of HIV, why are you silent on low-income donors, blacks, Hispanics, and other groups who statistically also have much higher rates of HIV? It's a clear double standard and indicative this is just animosity towards the gay community.

Applying your bro logic would lead to absurd consequences. If we banned every group with a higher prevalence of a particular bloodborne disease, there would be no one left to donate.

Moreover, this overlooks the rigorous and effective screening procedures in place. The focus should be on improving screening processes rather than clinging to some discriminatory blanket ban that makes no sense.

I was going to post some facts and numbers, but I don't want to subject you to too much science/homphobia

Yes, and it costs money to test, so if people having a bunch of random anal sex keep turning up with unusable blood, and they keep having to pay to test it just to find out they can't use it, they're better off telling people engaging in risky behavior to not bother.
You think "risky behaviour" is limited to gays? Do you live in a cave?

Who are you quoting? The recommendation was not having anal sex with multiple people in the last 3 months, and you made up some weird misspelled fake conversation because the CDC pointed out the people most likely to be infected with AIDS for blood transfusions?

Yeah, it was those goddamn redneck homophobes at the CDC who didn't want blood transfusions from AIDS carriers. The only explanation for not wanting a blood transfusion from someone with AIDS is homophobia rednecks refusing "kweer blood".

<mma2>
It's more likely because of TS choosing to exclaim this title, while stating "I hope I don't need a blood transplant!", but don't let that interrupt your deflecrion. Also it now seems that they're pointing out that isn't an appreciable risk for these people.

So are you OK with it if all blood is tested anyway for various diseases regardless of who donates it?

You're a f*ckin drag at comedy shows aren't you? When the comedian tells a story that's obvious joke you're that clown in the audience who blurts out "I dont think that actually happened to you!"
You weren't joking. You were being a bigot, while calling other people bigots. Biggest loser mod on the site.

You guys put atleast 2 jabs of some unknown substance that was created in a week to combat a fucking plague released from a Chinese lab designed to get rid of a president

Gay blood is the least of your worries

Yes, they already do test it for diseases, and it's just wasted time, effort and money if it turns out unusable, so they were trying to minimize the number of unusable donors. There is also the window after exposure where you can still test negative, hence the 90 days.

It also wasn't "no gays allowed" either. It said male donors can't have had anal sex with other men in the last 90 days. You could still be a gay guy and take 90 days off getting plowed by other dudes, and lesbians didn't have any restrictions, because there wasn't an AIDS epidemic with lesbians or straight people. I know you guys love to pretend you're victims, but this is just silly.

Huh? They aren't now and never were. That was the guideline this thread is about, but that certainly wasn't the only one that did exist or does now. Intravenous drug users and other people engaging in risky behavior still can't donate.

I had blood a few weeks ago. Kept passing out at work and heart rate was through the roof, passed out in the hallway and they took me in the e room(I work in a hospital) they said my blood hemaglobin was very low. Gave me fluids and released me and then I started shutting black tar for blood. Went back in and my levels had dropped to below 7 (they should be 14-16) and I didn’t give a fuck who’s blood I got and if you are stupid enough to be a bigot when it comes to saving your life, you deserve to be passed over.

The younger members of Sherdog might not have seen this, but when I saw it as a kid, it really blew me away.

It's not about blood donation, but the premise is the same.
