Gane-Jones still has me rattled..

The title was vacant. Why would there be an interim belt? Do you even follow?

No, but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night. Even the cook who spoke no English said "Why give chance away HW belt for hiding LHW with no HW fights?

He sure has been "getting away with it" for a very long time now

(This is a safe space for those that have been affected by Jon Jones)

It just doesn't make any sense how easily he beat Gane, eah he got taken down by ngannou but the layoff and mcdonalds dirty bulk look shoulda caught up to him.

He can't keep getting away with this......
LOL!

You're atleast honest
I think 80% of the board feels the way you do.

You can tell yourself Gane was never good anyway like all of Jones other opponents, thats seems to be how the others seem to emotionally deal with it.

Jones knew how to beat Gane before he signed any dotted line, before he phoned Dana to tell him he wanted the fight.

That's what made me a fan of Jones in the beginning was that he won every time I thought he was finally going to get beaten. After a while I stopped doubting and recognized his brilliance (was it the Shogun fight?). He's a once in a lifetime kind of gifted Pro mma fighter. I'll be honest, I don't know how to reconcile the PED's stuff. Maybe one day when we'll know the whole story behind that. Maybe he'll write a book.

Nobody fucking called that, stop talking out of your ass
A lot of people called it and I was on that same boat. After watching the Ngannou fight, it was clear Jones was going to demolish Gane on the ground. Jones is one of the most intelligent fighters ever with S tier coaches. Gane is unskilled as a MMA fighter, but he is skilled at kickboxing. Gane never fought and wrestler and he fought arguably the greatest fighter with a wrestling background with weapons other than ground & pound. I have Gane & Tuivasa in the same category, they both are not skilled.

As always, threads about Jones make the haters cry.

I hate Jon Jones with a passion, but that mothafucka is a damn good fighter sir.
Getting taken down by Ngannou is a quite different than getting taken down by Jones who has good submission skills.

That and the fact that Gane looked out of his element the second the ref said fight.
He knew Jon was far better than Ngannou on the ground and he fought like he knew that.

Couple that with the fact that Gane himself said he don't train in between fights, only when he signs the contract.

How does he expect to keep beating guys that are in the gym everyday when he is acting like his athleticism will overcome any obstacle sir?

Even Jones knew that Gane had no ground game and was an easy match up as Gane never fought any wrestlers at HW and ducked Blaydes

No, nobody called Jon destroying Gane in the first 2 minutes without even breaking a sweat

Sure, but not that easy and that fast

No I didn't foresee Gane not even attempting to defend the choke which is basic human nature sir.
Once his neck felt forearm he essentially gave up, and tapped faster than Conor... nobody seen that coming.

I flat out said in early January that Gane is unskilled & will get dominated on the ground. It was clear as day Jon Jones was going to demolish Gane. Don't believe me?search any of my post I have when it pertains to Gane or the current HW division. Gane has never impressed me and anyone who thought he stood a chance on the ground or was going to stop Jones from taking him down either just started watching MMA or they just hate Jones for whatever reason.

If Jones beats Pavlovich, who cares because even the kickboxer Overeem did it years ago.

If Jones beats Stipe it doesn't matter because Stipe is old and washed so it doesn't count.

If Ngannou somehow comes back and loses to Jones then Ngannou's knees were bad since surgery and he really had no skill but power.

No matter what outcome people will hate Jones even if he beat all the top guys.

I loathe Jones but I knew he'd smoke Gane on the ground lol.

Everyone will mock you, but I must admit that I was also a bit surprised. Not "rattled." I was actually rooting for Jon Jones to win.

It surprised me because Jon Jones, three years ago, couldn't take down a former middleweight in Thiago Santos (3 years older than Jones) who was suffering from a torn ACL, MCL and PCL on his right leg. By all accounts, Thiago Santos, who was much older than Jones, and a former middleweight, was fighting on a single leg, and Jon Jones couldn't take him down. Thiago, in his very next fight, went on to be taken down multiple times and even submitted by a 42-year-old Glover Teixera.

Never mind Dominick Reyes, which is a fight where Jones also showcased poor wrestling ability. Just not being able to take down a small kickboxer who was fighting on 1 leg, substantially older, and who went on to be easily ragdolled by a 42-year-old Teixera did it for me.

For him to have come back 3 years later and to easily ragdoll Cyril Gane, who is 3 years younger than Jones, and much bigger than Thiago Santos, was very unexpected based on Jones' performance against Santos. Santos and Gane are both kickboxers, so it was my frame of reference.

People also laugh at HW and say that Jones easily beating Gane was foreseeable because HW is the weakest division, but I was also considering the fact that a 43-year-old Werdum easily took down and dominated a 32-year-old Gustafsson on the ground in a single round, while Jones and DC couldn't really do it in the first encounter, and in Jones vs Gustafsson 2, it took Jones three rounds to get the job done. That's for grappling. In terms of striking (which we didn't see much of), we also know that Anthony Johnson (who was a KO artist at LHW) was only able to win a lackluster decision against glass-chin Arlovski. Ben Rothwell (one of the most unskilled HWs) defeated Ovince St. Preux, a LHW skilled enough to beat Corey Anderson, Shogun Rua twice, and Marcos Rogerio de Lima.

It just didn't seem black and white to me.
On paper, Gane should have won by decision or TKO. The weak to non-existent wrestling in Jones' last fights combined with a YEAR for Gane to train his TDD, which HE KNEW was the only way he'd get beat in the UFC should have made it a kickboxing match that Gane should have dominated.
