Gane has a more proven ground game than Pavlovich

He looked like extremely bad against Overeem. Just stayed flat on the mat not even an. attempt to hip escape and post
I agree. And word out of the AKA training room is that Pavlovich's wrestling isn't good. Maybe he's greatly improved, but we haven't seen it.

Please rewatch that finish sequence. Overeem was doing very little to control Sergei. I’m serious rewatch it and tell me how much of that was Overeem imposing his grappling control or how much of it was Sergei just doing absolutely of benefit for himself in that position. I’m telling you he was shockingly bad on his back.
He had just gotten badly rocked, I'm going to say that was a big factor. Watch what happens before the finishing sequence and takedown.

You're more likely to tap to a guillotine early in a fight because sweat helps you escape. Fact. Which in no way means that Gane's defense there was anything better than completely hopeless.
You’re more likely to tap to a guillotine when you don’t have someone’s legs grapevined. Facts.

Damn, seriously? I’m not surprised in the slightest. Perhaps he has greatly improved who knows, but Overeem doesn’t have half the grappling Jones does. That’s why it’s odd jones haters are pushing for the Sergei fight. Stipe absolutely has a better shot at beating Jones than Sergei, I believe even with him coming off that ko loss and the layoff. I will say, though him being at AKA is a good place to improve one’s grappling.

Badly rocked? Not at all. Overeem landed a right that didn’t wobble him at all. Overeem then grabbed a Thai clinch and Sergei decided to hop on one leg. You can’t hop on one leg like that when rocked. Even if he was rocked When Overeem stood over him holding his legs for enough time for him to clear his head. It took a full minute for Overeem to land another hard strike. Sergei also did not once even attempt to try and push overeems hips with his feet. Sergei couldn’t even attempt to wall work or hip escape as well. I strongly disagree Sergei was rocked why he looked so awful on the mat. He just had zero ground game back then. He did less than Gane did against Jones. At least Gane got back up to be taken down again. Sergei was on his back both hips and shoulders on the mat looking at Overeem for a full minute and did nothing but grab overeems ankles for a second and just stare up.

overeem fight was a fluke, sergey was a little wobbled and got tripped down, it happens, gus did the same to jones.
also overeem was a MUCH better grappler than ngannou, who lay'n'prayed gane with ease
go watch sergey's fights before the ufc, two things he has that ufc only casuals dont know about: wrestling and good cardio

Yeah, I think Gane whoops pavlovich's ass. Gane's skills vs a HUGE, STRONG KO artist are exactly why ngannou had to beat him with wrestling.

LMAO, sergey would lay'n'pray gane if he needed too, but he wouldn't, he would ko him

He was not wobbled at all. The punch landed mostly on his neck watch it in .25x speed. He was then able to balance hopping on one leg to block a knee before overeem foot swept him. Sergei didn’t push off of Overeem’s hips one, didn’t attempt a hip escape once, kept both shoulders and hips on the mat, and didn’t even attempt to wall walk to get up. There was a full minute to recover before Overeem landed another damaging punch. Sergei showed an abysmal ground game that fight, and it definitely wasn’t because he was rocked.

People really refuse to believe that Jones was just that much better that night

He's not at AKA now; that was a while back. Word is that he got ragdolled in the wrestling room.

Regarding Stipe, I wouldn't get my hopes up. He'll be 41 by the time they fight, and he hasn't won a fight in 3 years. Also, he became a full-time firefighter last year; meaning he's just a part-time fighter. If this were Stipe from 5 years ago, I think he walks through Jones. But the current version of Stipe? Not so much.

where’d you here about Sergei getting out wrestled at aka? and Stipe from 5 years ago is an extremely difficult fight for Jones. Literally the perfect matchup. If Stipe checked his kicks Jones gets beat up. I still believe Stipe is still a tougher fight for Jones than Sergei, though. Sergei’s footwork is lacking and he’s slow. Stipe at least knows how to move in and out well and can punch moving backwards. Sergei is only a threat if Jones just decides to stand in front of him. Jones would never. Sergei is absolutely a beast, but he doesn’t have to tools to fight someone like Jones or Gane just yet I believe. Anyone else in the division i think Sergei beats. I think him and Francis would be very interesting because they both like to trade. But anyone who moves well will be tough for homeboy.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong? Overeem wasn't in his Ubereem phase in 2014, he had been off roids for a while by then and his body finally got used to being off the juice again and everyone was calling him Econoreem. He was fighting at a slower more deliberate pace and was using his wrestling more than he was when he was full of juice.

You can't garentee shit, Jones never fought someone like Overeem in his career that has strong wrestling, sub grappling, better striking, much more power, is a threat to finish in the stand up, with GnP and with submissions. The Overeem that beat up Sergei was pretty much the same one that beat up Jones in training.

Overeem got off the juice in 2012 and his body wasn't used to that till 2014. You can see it in his fights with Bigfoot and Browne where he was trying to fight as if he was still on the juice which caused him to completely gas in round 3. He looked much better against Mir a year later, he had less muscle mass but his cardio was much better.
I didn't know the exact day Overeem/Jones trained, but I know Ubereem ended around Brock match and thought it was around there. We'll see like I said. If Jones takes Pavlovich down easier than Overeem did and finishes him, I bet you still wouldn't give Jones credit or admit he has better grappling than Overeem. I'll give Overeem the better striking for sure. But both at HW, Jones has to be much better. I think we'll see him vs Pavlovich and answer these questions.
