Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

I’m not aware of any bullshit from AMD.

AMD used Nvidias pricing structure to increase theirs pertaining to Nvidias performance. They did the same with their CPU's towards Intel with the introduction of their 5K series CPU's.

Bullshit, you obnoxious fanboy.

The RX 6900 XT outperformed even the 3090 despite costing far less. Its predecessor, the 5700 XT, was a middle of the road card, and that's why it cost so much less. The 7900 XT is priced $100 less than its predecessor, and the 7900 XTX, if you view that as the 6900 XT's true successor at the top of their initial lineup, didn't see a price hike. It also is more powerful than the 4080, and yet costs less.

If they were "scaling" their pricing relative to NVIDIA, the 7900 XTX would be priced above the 4080.

The only thing you're right about is that, yes, consumers are tired of the price increases from both.

Still to this day i have no idea why you keep saying this. Ive owned Intel, AMD and Nvidia products. As a Pc consumer my purchases are driven by price to performance.

I think it’s Hust because they had two years of extremely high record sales. Not that many people need new gpu’s right now.
Exactly.

Article was talking shipments (not sales or revenue) so it would make sense that it's historically down with the high sales of the last 2 years (a lot of consumers don't need to buy), majority of the people who are interested in buying soon are just waiting for the next gen chips since there not far away, and very late gen is usually historically bad for shipments since product line production gets reduced significantly (which is being intensified by the sub $500 market not being attractive priced or having large late gen price cuts especially on the NVidia side)

I can't imagine an app would void your warranty. If they try pulling any shit you should threaten to take your experience to Reddit's on multiple subs.

They send me back brand new drive but no explanation whats wrong was with the old one.

Who cares what's wrong with the old one? You have a brand new drive. Win.

They probably didn't waste time trying to figure that out themselves. Not worth the trouble. Just e-wasted it.

Scalpers are stuck with tons of the 4080's that they weren't able to quickly flip for a nice profit. It turns out NewEgg an others decided to remove the return policy on 4080's. Lol

"
Retailers like Newegg remove the refund option for NVIDIA's RTX 4080, leaving scalpers scampering in the direction of third-party marketplaces
Posts on r/PCMR show that scalpers are flocking to various marketplaces like Facebook in an effort to offload their scalped stash of NVIDIA RTX 4080s. It looks like they are having trouble the inventory even at a very "generous" pricing close to MSRP ($1200). Quite understandably, gamers that were left in the lurch during the cryptocurrency mining boom are watching this unfold with glee."

So i think I'm gonna ditch Nvidia this go around despite having a g-synch monitor, though I'm not sure if that capability is still relevant any more. I basically want a card that will be totally boss for settings (all maxed) and decent FPS for a 1440P set up. I think reality is that a 4070 type card would be the right fit, but I am out of patience and suspect the value of a Nvidia 4070 type card will pale in comparison to a higher end AMD.

Question though, is there any benefit to getting an AMD CPU if you are going to pair it with an AMD GPU? Or is a current gen intel CPU the way to go even with an AMD graphics card?

Never used to be, but there actually is now with SAM, although the slight improvement in performance won't overcome Intel's CPU advantage outright. It's just a nice perk built into AMD if you opt for an AMD CPU.

Fucking good. I hope they lost a lot of money

figured id ask here. im probably going to update my pc this year. seeing as how the b350-f has 7th gen am4 support, i may upgrade my 1700x to either a 5800x or 5600x and then upgrade my rx580 to maybe 6600. should i just try and get a 12gb gpu or stick with 8gb for price.

I would probably go with the 5600x if all you’re doing is gaming. 5800x3d if you’re doing more. I haven’t looked at prices today though. If the 5800x3d is still on super sale that’s the way to go.

are there two versions of the 6600? If there is, 8gb would be fine. Some games are pushing the gpu memory limits now but only at 4k, which you probably won’t really want to run a 6600 at 4k anyways in demanding games

You're not going to see a better price on the 5600X than right now. PCPP is showing everyone out of stock, but it's not right. Best Buy has it for $159 right now, and you can add to cart:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/amd-ry...alth-cooler/6438943.p?acampID=0&skuId=6438943

The RX 6600, RX 6600 XT, and RX 6700 XT cards are the three cards with the best values if assessed as a la carte purchases. The 6700 XT has 12GB. It isn't necessary to go for that much VRAM, but since there is very little premium on the 6700 XT over the 6600, why not? You can get brand new shrinkwrapped reference variants on eBay from top sellers for attractive prices. The 6600 XT for $279, or the 6700 XT for $379.

The 5600 is $137 on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon, and comes with Uncharted. You have to look at other sellers.
GamersNexus has the 5600 and 5600x within margin of error.

A worthy alternative. Although it's showing $155 on Amazon for me for the R5-5600 as of this reading, and even at $137, I'm not sure I would sacrifice 200Mhz to spare a mere $22. One Andrew Jackson seems worth it. Focus on gaming which depends more heavily on that first-core superiority.

Most YouTube game head-to-head benchmarks also show a roughly ~3% advantage in games at stock for the 5600X which is consistent with the difference one would expect from the base/turbo clock boosts. That's not a large difference, but it's also not much smaller than the difference between the i7-12700K and i5-12600K when you scrutinize specifically gaming at low resolutions like TPU above.

And it would seem to be in line with what Tom's Hardware found who, like Gamer's Nexus, showed a marginal difference overall (less than 1%) between the 5600X and 5600, but that's because both reviewers include more editing and general benchmarks in their reviews than strictly gaming. Focus on single-threaded performance, which offers the most insight into gaming, and you see this. After all, Tom's Hardware's 1080p gaming benchmarks also put the 5600X's performance at 4% superior to the 5600 if you focus strictly on gaming.
