Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

@WhiteMousse
I didn't see if you bought a new G-Sync monitor, yet. If you hadn't, here's a solid deal:

Here is the Rtings review:

For your convenience here is that table I made so you can see how it stacks up. At an 8.4 Gaming rating it's just 0.4 points off the #1 scoring 27" 1440p monitor that is G-Sync Native or NVIDIA Certified. It also has a very strong 8.0 Mixed Usage rating:

Fuck. Dude thank you! I'm doing it. I'm buying!!

I'd first try setting the VRR minimum framerate activation to 20, and of course, be sure to use Displayport. If you ever see any issues with that kick it up to 48 because that's where NVIDIA certifies the range:

Amazon $10 free when purchasing $50 gift card (maybe e-card or plastic card mailed). Code: USGIFTCARD21

Saw another Amazon for free $12 when reloading for $100.

Guys I have a question about Nvidia drivers. For the past two driver updates, when I install them, my screen goes black, and video does not come back. I hold the power button and the computer comes on fine, the newest drivers successfully installed.

Is this common? Is this indicative of a hardware issue? Could it be related to the monitor problems I was having before? If it's nothing, great, but I generally don't like having to manually shut off my computer.

My PC beeped three times when I turned it on and now I've noticed two of my case fans aren't spinning but their lights are still working.

Find out what MOBO you have and google what the beeps mean.

3 beeps usually means memory issues. Try to reseat your memory. If that doesn't work, move your memory to different slots.
If that doesn't work, pull one stick out and try to turn on your computer. If that doesn't work, swap your memory sticks and try to turn it on again.

It's a B550. Apparently 3 beeps is memory issues. I can't see how the ram could have came loose as I don't move the PC and I've had it set up for over a year. It only happened once and the screen wouldn't turn on but I restarted it and it never happened again. Afterwards however I noticed two case fans aren't spinning (two ceiling fans). I've seen somewhere someone said you need to drop some oil in the back of the fans occasionally? PC is working fine regardless.

I fixed it. Some of the fans were only plugged into the RBG and not into the motherboard as I didn't realize you could put those 3 pin connectors onto 4 pin connections. My exhaust fan also wasn't working even though it was connected properly. I found out that my case has a setting for fan speed on the top and the exhaust fan only works when this switch is set to high or low, not in the middle (maybe the middle means off and not medium??). Very lucky to fix this. I noticed my speaker on the motherboard has a little damage to it's wire so maybe it shorted and the 3 beeps were from that. I couldn't find the right place to put the motherboard speaker so it's just in a random 4 pin connection that it fits in. Could this have caused it to short?

@Madmick Have you seen any other system builder provide a cpu support bracket for shipping before?

No, I don't think so. Very cool.

I'm expecting this to become the norm for cases. I think it's the new PSU shroud or high airflow front panel for the next wave. Case manufacturers know gamers want it, and if they want to offer the best case, they have to include one. Those that don't will be falling behind.

The Fractal Torrent signals this arrival. I expect that case to win most 2021 Case of the Year awards, and it came with a bracket included. It's too short for the biggest cards like the 3090, I've read, but that's a quibble when other cases aren't including one. The difference is I expect to see this below the luxury end, not just in cases like the Torrent with a $190 price tag.

There were probably several other cases before the Torrent that included one, but I noticed with the Torrent because that case generated so much praise. I don't read or watch many case reviews, anymore. They all got so good (thanks in no small part to GamersNexus). The case market is not as hazardous as it was a mere five years ago.

I believe one of the Cooler Master H500 variants has a bracket similar to the Torrent.
I really like the design of the Torrent with the fans on the bottom to supply nice fresh air to the gpu, hopefully more cases do that in the future. That's one of the main reasons I went with the 011 Dynamic.

It's amazing how far cases have come in the past couple years, especially itx cases. You can find a damn nice case these days with multiple ARGB fans, tempered glass, and good airflow for under $100.

It appears Peuget has been doing the support brackets for awhile.

In terms of overall design its a baby step in the right direction when a giant leap was possible. For it doesnt follow the server rack airflow design. Preinstalled bottom intake fans are there to compensate for a front AIO installation.

Guys my new monitor arrives tomorrow! I'm so excited!! Here's hoping the issue I've been experiencing with G-Sync on a non-G-Sync monitor goes away. @Madmick @jefferz do you guys have any thoughts on the aforementioned issue? The past two NVidia driver updates, I install them and the screen goes black. I have to do a hard shutdown but when I start up, the driver is installed and everything is fine.
