Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

First Intel, now Nvidia.

Intel and Nvidia were dominating CPU and GPU market for the last 15 years. And now from the ashes AMD rise up to compete with giants.

Well played I say. Keep up pressure. We all know Nvidia and Intel were milking market for years, I am glad AMD finally picked up the fight.

Can't wait how things will develop this year.
I don't see any company announcement, statement from Lisa Su, or other headline to justify a discrete thread for AMD vs. NVIDIA, so I merged this here. That's the primary purposes served by this thread: to track the evolution and performance of CPUs and GPUs.

For the PC enthusiast that’s thrown in the towel on the prospect of ever having sex.

Ordered a sennheiser GSP300 headset and may get the GSX300 to go with it in the near future. Anyone here have it?

looking forward to gaming again.

Personally I'd look at spending a little bit more money and get the Schiit Fulla amp/dac. It's a little bit better quality and they're made in America.

Compared to the GSX 300, the Fulla 3 does everything the GSX 300 does but better, with the exception of no software available on the Fulla 3. So, is it worth getting the Fulla 3 over the GSX 300? Well, that depends. If you are after a DAC that has software, I would say you are better off going with the GSX 300. But, if you are willing to spend a little bit more money, I think you will get more bang for your buck with the Fulla 3.

I feel like GPU's have been way overpriced for at least 4 years now. Bitcoin blew up and GPUs were overpriced for a few years, then Covid hit and it got even worse... It never seems to end.

Back in late 2013 I bought an R9 290 for less than $400 and at the time it was top of the line for AMD. These days you can't get jack shit for that price.

I finally decided to upgrade my old R9 290 in october and got a GTX 1660 Super for $350 CAD and thank goodness I did. My only regret is not going for something a little better. They are selling for $600 right now on Market place. And this just a midrange gaming card.

Shit is crazy. Everything is sold out online.

Gone are the days when you could get one of the best cards on the market for $400-$500.

Eh, this happens every few years. Same thing in the spring of 2018. Things will return to normal later this summer.

i doubt it.

i think shit's going to be bad until the consoles hit some kind of relative saturation. unless nvidia pulls a rabbit out of some mystery fab's hat or samsung magic's up WAY better yields.

but while sony/ms are vying for their/amd's wafers, and amd is prioritizing epyc/laptop/desktop cpus over apus/gpus... and tsmc's already overbooked for years...

demand's probably going to be substantially more than supply for a while.

but i'm sure nvidia's mining cards will have all the miners dumping their 3080s/3090s en masse. /s

Once Bitcoin crashes to earth it’ll saturate the market with hardware. I mean computers being rewarded for solving puzzles somehow is worth $50k(for one BUTTcoin, forget all the copy cat coins). Seems like a scam.

This is kinda a big deal because CUDA has been Nvidia bread and butter in the server and workstation graphics space. It could become a game changer and will make Intel GPU's far more attractive to big companies and AI labs. Intel even has hinted new updates in the CPU will make it work better with their GPU's then other vendor CPU's "AMD". If it gets anywhere near native performance that would be a big problem for Nvidia.

https://hothardware.com/news/cuda-on-intel-gpus-zluda

"Using a graphics processor or GPU for tasks beyond just rendering 3D graphics is how NVIDIA has made billions in the datacenter space. Of course, NVIDIA's proprietary CUDA language and API have been exclusive to the company's GPUs since the beginning. There have been tools to port CUDA apps to widely-supported languages like OpenCL, but even semi-automated tools like HIPCL require developer intervention. The latest library on the block, however, promises to run CUDA apps directly on Intel GPUs without any modifications. Sounds interesting, right?

The developers behind ZLUDA describe it as a drop-in replacement for CUDA on systems with Intel GPUs from the Skylake family and later. The newest release supports both Windows and Linux clients with 6th-generation (or higher) Core processors with integrated graphics. According to the developers, ZLUDA should achieve near-native performance, but its feature set is limited. At the present time, only Geekbench is really running, and prospective users are warned to not rely on it for any production-level software just yet."

Hardware Unboxed was shadow banned after YouTube detected suspicious activity from log-ins to their channel. It seems like Steve logging in from other locations during his holiday might have caused it but YouTube did not provide them any information regarding this so it's just speculation at this point. Lack of proper communication was the most frustrating part. No communication or timeline for the resolution put them both through a lot of stress.

I'm surprised no one has mention the NZXT Cam mini mode.

I have mine setup on a second screen set up vertically so it's just a quick glance away. There was no setup like the Rain Meter or Aida 64 monitor solutions, which can be a pain to set up. It was just install, enable, and resize.

Oh, haha. Thought you were going to run dual 3090s or something.

I am just a regular gamer homey. My current PC has a 1070 from looooong ago. Ideally I would have preferred a 3080 because I generally buy low or mid-tier and build as cheaply as possible. But my buddy wanted me to help him build a comp so I asked around and was able to get a hookup for two 3090s at MSRP (plus tax and a bit for shipping). I was in the market for a new PC but hadn't planned on doing it so soon but whatever.. I have the GPU now so fuck it.. Let's GOOOO!!!

Gonna rip on a 3090. Enjoy.

The 3080 isn't low or mid-tier either. It's objectively the best GPU.

You could save some money on not getting that OS. You can buy a key for like 3 bux, or use the product key from your current Windows PC.

But the rest looks good. A beast of a PC, and very goddamn costly lol.
