Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

RDNA 1, okay, I get it. But RDNA 2? That's what the current generation of consoles run on. The RX 6000 series cards launched on October, 2020, and they were still releasing new SKUs as late as early 2022. So some of this series isn't even four years old, yet.

I guess the fact this enduring support has gotten so little press is partly to blame. I can't think of anyone besides Hardware Unboxed that has really invested effort into showing how much ground AMD cards have gained on NVIDIA cards over the past decade in terms of fps and optimization improvements as they age.

Hopefully they reverse this decision. I remember there was something similar with the X370 motherboards not supporting Zen 3 or something? And they walked back on that decision after customer complaints and I believe Hardware Unboxed complained as well.

Yeah, those independent hardware reviewers must share partial responsibility for AMD's actions.................

Makes me glad I'm on linux and the mesa drivers aren't controlled by AMD. My 6800XT should be good for years to come. For Windows users this sucks. I hope AMD gets pressured into continuing support.

Looks like they backtracked

Huh, looks like YouTubers drawing attention to an issue does have an impact on AMD's behavior. Fancy that.

Bravo, AMD.

Its a misconception when someone is the underdog that they are the sole honest player amongst their competitors. AMD has repeatedly lied and gone back on previous statements from user backlash.

An when we look at the quote from AMD's spokesperson towards Tomshardware. Its intentionally worded that both are actually entering maintenance mode. AMD's main business model moving forward is supplying and servicing datacenters.

There's the NVIDIA fanboy we all know and love, LOL.

We'll see if they actually backtracked or not. The terminology they used was extremely vague ("based on market needs"), reminds me of how the lawyers in my family talk.

In 6 months, it could easily translate too "instead of having an obligation to optimize for RDNA 2, we will choose if we will do so based on ....whatever we decide at the time".

Either way a very poor look. What's especially bad about RDNA2 was people forget the first half of that generation was basically gobbled up by miners. Every single person I knew that purchased one for gaming did so in 2022-2023 which was just a few years ago. You would think a billion + dollar company would be able to rationalize that a lot of gamers who physically bought those cards for gaming did so only a few years ago.

I managed to get my 6800XT in Jan or Feb of 2021 (Australia), got lucky most were sold out. I have a 7900XTX now.

You just learned the hard way why its best not to have allegiances towards any specific Pc hardware entity. All use their built up good will to swindle consumers periodically. These corporate entities dont deserve the same leeway as a family member.

LOL, who learned what? Your ignorant ass just learned about case width clearances via CPU cooler height specifications for the first time in your life after 20+ years of PC gaming just a month ago. You're welcome.

My rig has an NVIDIA card currently, LOL.

So begins the continued cycle of attempted rewriting while goading others into a flame war.

  1. Bad faith interpretation.
  2. Try to steer topic into personal insults.
  3. Gif replies.
"Bad faith interpretation". PC case width clearances are objective. Your ignorance was illuminated in the linked posts.

Must really suck for NVIDIA fanboys when AMD kills a bad headline cycle after less than 2 days by doing the right thing.

Should add "Labels poster fanboy of specific companies as deflection mechanism". Unfortunately this is a relatively new trend that hasnt established itself in the pattern yet.

Or it could be, you know, that you're an NVIDIA fanboy:
