Economy GameStop short squeeze: Stock dividend on the table for summer!

yes, that's it. "short attacks." definitely not the fact that they missed their last 3 quarterlies and have been losing money and diluting and now facing macro headwinds.

nope, it's due to "hedgies"

so just to confirm... since their chart has been all down and to the right today, it's because of "short attacks?" so they announce a split that's suppose to fuck over the evil hedgies that are short, but then the stock steadily goes down, anyway?

damn you, hedgies!

anyway, great thread.

lmaoo dude you have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about.
The stock split was ANNOUNCED yesterday. Earliest it’ll happen is June or so. But this bullish news makes hedge funds salty so what would you do if you were in their shoes? Knock the stock down to discourage FOMO and piss of shareholders. Seen it happen after every positive news announcement and I fully expected the stock to go down today.

Basically you’re saying a stock tanking after bullish news means an absence of shorts...that’s so backwards I doubt you’re serious at this point.

so i'm short a stock... and then they announce this catalyst to fuck the shorts... so i what, short it even more?

lolz @ being this retarded where no matter what happens, you conclude that shorting is the answer.

so when it goes down, it's because of shorts and when it goes up, it's because of a short squeeze! it's brilliant! literally every change in price must be because of shorts! i guess it's why stocks literally always/only go up on SSR days!

You’re getting it now man.. You or I, or any other sane person, would have just cut our losses a long time ago before this got out of control. But these guys call retail and the working class “dumb money” and just couldn’t swallow their pride and admit that they made a bad move.

Their stubbornness only allows them to keep digging the hole deeper, so it might not make sense to us, but please try to understand that these crooks are on a different level of arrogance and entitlement.

yeah, i was mocking the shit out of your (il)logic.

not my logic buddy, it’s theirs.

...no, it's yours. they're not here posting this nonsense. like i said, YOU concluded that it's being shorted... no matter what.

wait, do you think the hedgies are in the room with you?

A stock split only raises price because institutional investors use it to fleace dummies.

If a company is worth 100 dollars and has 50 shares outstanding worth 2 bucks each. It splits so there are 100 shares that should be worth 1 dollar each because the split doesnt change the valuation of 100 bucks. The fact it might go up to 1.10 or 1.20 is because of dummies temporarily buying high because they are dumb, and high vol institutional traders on the other side of every trade getting all that money before the share price drops back to the concensus valuation.

i'm confused. this explanation doesn't even mention "hedgies." it's obviously bullshit.

I read the amc stock subreddit a while back when a friend of mine hipped me to the “moass.”

I’m not well versed in the stock market but the whole thing just sounds a bit delusional. Like there are people holding that stock claiming it’s gonna hit 500k per share when the hedge funds have to cover. I could feel fomo setting in and was almost going to buy some but it was already at an ATH so I didn’t bother.
Reddit has some interesting niche places but almost all the investing advice is complete mayhem. Wall Street Bets can definitely be amusing, especially the loss porn, but don't ever take advice from people there.

You've heard the jokes of 4chan being weaponized autism?

Now imagine a group with that same "how the fuck do you have time for this?" commitment, but not fully autistic.

That's the online bro day trading community. It's hilarious.

Michael Reeves just did a video where he wrote a program that used a goldfish to decide what stocks to buy and put it against Wall Street Bets. Guess which one made money?

oldskool wsb would have attempted to actually fund this guy's plan and make $fish a reality.

i miss the old wsb.

There are dudes on there that were sitting on 2000 shares that they got for 2 bucks per share and they didn’t sell any when it hit 50, 60 or 70 bucks. There’s no way I could have sit on my hands like that.

explain to me how a stock split in the form a dividend affects short positions

Short sellers would need to buy back the shares they shorted, as well as return the shares to who they borrowed them from. They DO NOT want to do this.
Look at Tesla. They were massively shorted and in May 2020 they announced a 5:1 split...the share price in May was around $150 and by the end of 2020 it had skyrocketed to over $700 a share.

So GameStop has the perhaps the most loyal shareholders in the world but we all woke up this morning and decided to sell everything..the day after very good news??

Yep, I’m sure hedge funds had nothing to do with it...even though it’s literally what they do with company after company.

no, stock splits are materially inconsequential for investors and for shorters. If all you had to do to inflate your stock price was to announce a split, stocks would constantly be splitting.

tesla is one example. there are countless examples where stock splits are followed by negative or no change in share price. its meaningless.

and they couldn't just reopen shorts, amirite?

yeah, no one ever sells gme. all the data we have on their daily volume is fake.

wtf is a pump&dump, amirite?

and lolz @ "very good news"

Lol @ calling Gme a pump & dump..it’s like I’m talking to Jim Cramer.

-If Gme truly squeezes the hedge funds against it won’t even be around to reopen positions.
-They can’t do this forever. The longer they kick this can the more absurd amounts of money they lose and the more attention they bring on themselves and their shady tactics. Ken Griffin and Citadel are currently under DOJ investigation as we speak,l.

Even if on very different levels, scum vs scum match-up lol

I watched the HBO documentary on this a couple days ago. Kieran Culkin did the narration. Then I watched an episode of Righteous Gemstones and was surprised when Macaulay Culkin made an appearance.
