And this is my point.
I think the Leopard is always trying to walk away and while he is the Pitbull is rushing in at full speed to instigate an attack. i think the Leopards first instinct when attacked would not be to turn and fight to the death (and win) but rather to try break free and flee.
I know Mountain Lions and Coyotes are opportunistic hunters of dogs in yards, etc. A gal i was dating had her dog snatched from her mom's yard in Oregon but that dog was a Pekingese.
I would love to see your info on them taking on a Game Pit. And the 'game' part matters. It matters a lot. Predators are great at picking out prey that does not have an aggressive posture while avoiding those who do. Thus why Honey Badger goes right and never backs down in the face of a lion. If it turned its back or looked sheepish it WOULD provoke a deadly attack.
Tribesmen in Africa have learned that too and will drive off giant prides of lions from a kill to take their meat by just walking right at them and being aggressive.
Why do I mention that. Because we know at other time Lions kills humans easily. SO the posture and willingness to fight REALLY does matter.
And again I am not saying the Cougar is not way more deadly and has all the tools to kill an attacking Game Pit in a head to head fight. All I am saying is that the Cougar would not want that fight. It would be almost impossible to get it to take that fight instead of just trying to flee.
Solo predators know that winning the fight but sustaining a serious injury is the same as losing the fight if it impacts your ability to hunt after and that makes them very weary of getting in unnecessary fights.
The thread scenario is that they are fighting, not walking away.
And in that scenario, the Pitt is fucked.
Average weight of a male Leopard is 200 pounds -male Pitt is 60 to 80 average. Everything on that cat is designed to kill from its claws to its fangs to its muscle mass.
And like I said, looking at other big cats that do encounter pets -like Mountain Lions- those dogs are food.
