Game Services thread, v2: Ubisoft headline portends a darker gaming future

I did not instigate this. I contributed to the thread. But I do have a solution if others feel bothered by this that has worked for other threads.
You guys can do what you want to do, it just gets tiresome trying to sort through all the minutia.

Honestly, outside of the occasional long winded spat, this has been the most peaceful "console war" I have ever seen.

Finally downloaded an EA title through Game Pass on PC and it’s pretty shitty. First, you can’t designate where you want the games to be downloaded like literally every other launcher. You have to manually type in the path. Ok, whatever. Then I tried to download a title to that drive. Only problem is there is no download button visible. It launches a small window that has all the details of the download with no option to initiate it. Turns out, you have to have the launcher full screen to expand the small window and then you can see the download button.

Terribly unintuitive on a basic level and needs some serious work.

Download the EA Play PC beta app, pretty easy to download. Its actually better than the Gamepass app.

I did, this was all through that. There’s no other way to download EA Games through Game Pass that I’m aware of.

Hmm.

I would definitely prefer if Gamepass and EA play were done through steam. The ability to mod your games etc, is so much better on that side.

You can absolutely choose where to install your games using the EA Play app. In fact, this is one of the perks of the EA Play titles available through the Game Pass service. Unlike with Game Pass itself, you aren't limited to choosing between drive destinations-- you can pick a specific folder. You also don't have to manually type in the install path, LOL. This is automated once you have defined that folder for EA Play. Furthermore, when you first install a game, you are met with a prompt asking you where you wish to install it, so you can individualize the installation directory for each game if you don't want to install it to this default folder. This is true whether or not you use Game Pass or EA Play directly to install the game. Game Pass (i.e. the Xbox app) doesn't care.

Holy shit, console peasants, LMFAO.

Coming-Soon_4.6.2021.jpg

Above were the major new Game Pass releases for this month. In a testament to what a monster Game Pass is, we aren't even a month out from the addition of GTA V on the 8th, and using what is probably the most reliable indicator of the most played games in the world (not counting Asia-- China specifically), Twitch average concurrent viewers, it appears GTA V has been the most played game in the world for the past 30 days. It's surpassed even League of Legends:
https://twitchtracker.com/games

First, this is astonishing for a game that launched in 2013 that isn't built around the GAAS (Games as a Service) model, though GTA has incorporated a stream of refreshing content around the online mode, but it speaks perhaps even more to the influence Game Pass is accruing, and also to the continuing rise of PC gaming. After all, the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S are the least populated units of all three major console brands for the last two generations by a gaping margin.

It’s fucking broken, numbnuts. You have to type the file path in like I said.

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Repor...n-directory-from-EA-desktop-app/td-p/10145130

Known issue, you get a blank screen where the only way you can direct it to another drive is by typing in the file path.

Imagine getting on your knees to defend EA because they’re associated with Microsoft. You are still beyond fucking pathetic.

I've been running games installed to custom directories for as long as that thread has existed. No issues.

It appears there are millions upon millions of Game Pass Ultimate users like me. I'm going to guess the three people in that thread are an outlier.

Since March? Lol

It’s literally a broken part of the app. Keep slurping.

Second time you've botched an attempt to smear EA Play's installation schemes because you didn't have any first hand experience.
First, you can’t designate where you want the games to be downloaded like literally every other launcher.
Yes, you can. It literally asks you where you want to download the game in the pop-up when you click install (either in Xbox or EA Play). What you failed to articulate, but then later tried to backtrack to cover, because you plucked this from some online discussion just to bitch about Xbox, was that a tiny number of users had reported an issue where this feature wasn't working as intended for them.

In the future, take these childish smears to the Xbox vs. Playstation thread. I'm done tolerating the derails. This is not a request.

Looking like there's another 50 games that will have fps boost soon according to Tom Warren

Only 25% of the current library has a release date predating the Xbox One. This includes PC classics like the DOOM & SimCity series, and the entire classic LucasArts Star Wars library. Among Xbox 360 games, this also includes games that are still among the most popular in the world today like GTA V. Other examples of old 360 games are the Halo series before Halo 4, the entire Mass Effect series before Andromeda, the second & third installments from the Fable series, Crysis 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fight Night: Champion, Dragon Age: Origins, etc.

Examples of global bestsellers from the past several years that are more current are MLB: The Show 21, the latest installment to every EA sports series (i.e. UFC 3, FIFA 21, NBA 2K21, NHL 21, Madden, etc.), Football Manager 2021, Control, ARK: Survival Evolved, Alien: Isolation, Greedfall, Destiny 2 (includes all expansions), DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Battlefield 1, Ori & the Will-o-the-Wisp, Ori & the Blind Forest, Halo: Master Chief Collection, Star Wars: Squadrons, Star Wars: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Dirt 5, MotoGP 20, Forza Horizon 4, Sunset Overdrive, Wasteland 3, Crusader Kings III, Yakuza 5, Gears 5, Monster Hunter: World, Titanfall 2, Anthem, Jurassic World Evolution, Sniper Elite 4, Sea of Thieves, Dead Space 3, The Outer Worlds, Outer Wilds, A Plague Tale: Innocence, Superhot, SoulCalibur VI, Call of the Sea, Blair Witch, Celeste, Ace Combat 7, Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, Dragon Quest XI S, Dead Cells, and on it goes.
