FX's FARGO Discussion Thread

I really think Hanzee told the truth when he said he wanted out of this life. The insults Dodd threw at him was just the last straw.

Also, I think the haircut scene was a reference to Samson (who Dodd mentioned during the hanging scene) who would lose his supernatural strength if his hair was cut. But when the cops showed up, Hanzee gets up before his hair is cut, to give them one hell of a last stand. (Thats my guess anyway)

Solid observation. They went out of their way to zoom in on Hanzees hair not getting cut in slow motion too.

I'm only on episode 2 of Season 2, and I really hate the athletic, explosive goon from Kansas City. Why the hell does he talk that way? I hope that character dies in the next episode.

Another easter egg - When they put the pillowcase over Dodd's head I think it was an ode to the kidnapping in the Fargo movie where Jerry Lundegaard's wife was tied up and also had the pillowcase around her head.

That episode was pretty reference heavy. Don't forget about Peggy banging on the TV trying to get reception.

Love how the episodes are over an hour. Although, I sometimes think it's just the ads pushing it to 90 minutes. The show can get TWD crazy with how many commercial breaks it takes.

Peggy is bat shit crazy.

Peggy is fantastic. She nailed every scene she was in.

Stabbing Dodd twice was such a shocking scene and she just continued cooking beans like nothing happened. Ed telling her she can't stab the hostage was priceless too.

Yeah I gotta say, Kirsten Dunst.....not a fan. She is absolutely killing it as Peggy though.

Same with Patrick Wilson as well. Can't stand the guy. He's perfect in this though.

Is it possible that Hanzee was working on Floyd's orders to kill Dodd(her son) rather than rescue him?

I thought she was just an annoying character at first, but she's turned me around. I mean, I still kind of hate her, but on the other hand, shes kind of awesome, in her own way.

@HereticBD
Yep, she was incredibly annoying in Spiderman. She did display her knack for annoying people in the earlier episodes but transformed into one of the best characters of the show. This last episode specifically.

@Einer
I really turned into a Peggy-fan this episode. She started to grow on me when she showed she wasn't just a spoiled brat keeping Ed on a leash. She is clearly dedicated to him and actually has a conscious (in her own way) expressing again her remorse about getting Ed into trouble when she spoke to Dodd after she stabbed him for his lack of manners.

They didn't show him in any kind of discussions with Floyd, and this was happening in parallel with the previous episode, so she's been dealing with the shooting at the Gerhardt compound, the funeral and being in police custody throughout Hanzee's mission. My guess is that the phone call between him and Floyd in the preview for next week is the call she went to take at the end of last week's episode. So, she didn't know Dodd was captured and needed saving, last she knew they were out together to get the butcher and free the kid from jail.

Could be a twist though, where it's revealed they've been playing Dodd the whole time, but some elements wouldn't quite make sense if that were the case.

FARGO Season 3 Time Period Revealed; Characters May Return

Fargo is leaving the 20th century behind for season 3. FX’s acclaimed anthology drama was set in 2006 for its Emmy-winning debut season last year, and then the action shifted to 1979 for its current second season. Season 3 will take place a couple years after the first season, EW has learned exclusively.

"It’s more contemporary," showrunner Noah Hawley said when asked about the season 3 time period. "It’s set a couple years after season 1." Asked if this means some characters from the first season will return (or maybe even we’ll see older versions of characters from season 2), the writer-producer replied, "Potentially."

Hawley has also previously expressed some reluctance to put Molly Solverson through the dramatic wringer again, given her character’s satisfying season 1 arc.

EW also asked Hawley if there were any hints about season 3 planted in the current season of Fargo, which FX recently renewed. "There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first, but I think part of the fun is figuring that stuff out and I wouldn’t want to take that away from anybody," he said. "There will be definitely things that connect to something in our story."

Hawley noted the show’s setting always has to at least be a few years in the past given the show "based on a true story format." "The idea of the ‘true story’ is it always has to be at least a few years ago, because the idea is we finally know what really happened and it took time – because the book doesn’t come out until five or six years after," he said.

Showrunner Reveals Fargo Season 2 Time Period and Possible Characters Returning

Too bad. I kinda want to hang around 1970s-era Fargo a bit more (or maybe early 80s). Want to see more of Hank, Lou and White Carl Weathers.

What was better 3 years ago?

Clearly King was referring to Desperate Housewives or Gossip Girl.

Love this show. Anyone know where I can catch season one free?

Whole first season is on Hulu, if you have that.

Also you could do some Captain Phillips related things if you are really desperate.

I don't have it. But I might get it for a month just to see season 1. Anything else must see n there?

Lots of network shows (Flash, Empire, Nashville, etc), I don't really watch that stuff but my roommate loves all those shows.

I really only use it to stay updated on South Park, Workaholics, and a few other shows since I don't have cable.
