FARGO Season 3 Premieres in 2017; Season 1 Characters Not Returning

Fans of Fargo aren't going to have to wait longer for the next season of the FX series, but 2016 may be a sad year indeed.

In lieu of the standard series of postmortem interviews showrunners invariably do these days, Fargo mastermind Noah Hawley spoke on a Tuesday morning conference call with a cadre of reporters to break down the state of his ongoing anthology series.

While many of the questions were about specific details resolving the second season finale, the third season was nebulously discussed, with the big revelation being that we probably won't get any Fargo in 2016.

"It's a winter show, for better or worse, and this winter, there is not time to shoot another year before this winter is over," Hawley said.

The first season premiered in April 2014, with the second season in October 2015, so given a similar gestation process, the reasonable expectation was always Spring 2017, which won't impact the show's Emmy window in the slightest.

As has been reported previously, the third season will be set in 2010, a few years after the events of the first season. Before you start thinking, 'Yay! More fun adventures with grown-up Molly,' don't.

"None of the main characters from our first year will be back for our third year," Hawley said, noting this would violate the relatively peaceful and resolved endings to each chapter of the saga.

"As much as I love those actors and characters, the dangers of bringing them back and putting them through their paces for another sort of crazy case is that then the artifice of the whole thing becomes too clear and suddenly it just feels like we're doing it because it's fun and we like them, but we've broken our own rules," he said.

But there's a caveat: "That's not to say that one of our stories might not intersect with characters we've seen before for a certain period of time."

Fargo Season 3 Wont Premiere Until 2017; Season One Characters Not Returning

Note: The first Fargo thread right now is a mess due to the migration as posts are suddenly not arranged chronologically and hard to read. Until it's fixed, let's continue the discussion here.

Overall, season 2 was amazing and is one of the best seasons on television but the finale was underwhelming.

Loved the movie, loved season 1, season 2 was good in the beginning but a major step down overall and by the end was downright bad, but I will give season 3 a chance. Hopefully the 2010 setting will make them less inclined to do a bunch of goofy shit.

Just read this in an article and honestly I hadn't even considered the thing with Wrench and Numbers

"Mr. Tripoli was the name of the Fargo mob boss whom Sam Hess worked for in Season 1. After Malvo killed Hess for Lester, Mr. Tripoli put out a hit on Hess' killer, sending Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers to find and execute him. We only saw Mr. Tripoli twice, once while enjoying a meal in a Chinese restaurant, and once again when he was murdered by Malvo during his assault on the Fargo mob's headquarters. (Presumably, the deaf kid and his brother whom Hanzee was watching play baseball in that same scene would grow up to be Numbers and Wrench.)"

The next season needs more Ronald Reagan.

I recognized Numbers and Wrench immediately but didn't make the connection to the name Tripoli until I read it somewhere else afterwards.

Seriously. How you gonna tickle our ass with Bruce Campbell, and then not even use the badass mofo.

Thank god for Ash vs. Evil Dead. That show has been awesome

Catched up on it, was a pretty solid season. I preferred Season 1 a lot more, thought season 2 slowed down coming towards the end.

Didn't expect Hanzee to kill Dodd at the beginning, but when when scene happened, you realised he wasn't going to mess up killing Peggy/Ed and they were not going to die so early so Dodd was obviously going to get killed by him.

The way Skip was, it reminded me of Malvo in Season 1 when he got arrested and was being interviewed and he was pretending to be the priest.

I am halfway finishing Season 1 after watching Season 2. I get a feeling S02 was written before 1. It just seemed they had more time to prepare for 2 than 1. Or maybe it's because of a budget issue?

Lester is such a schmuck. I mean it's one thing to be a total puss, but to be really dumb as well?

He could've covered his ass after the murder but no, instead he gives all these telltale signs for him to be caught. How hard is it to fix the damn infection in his hand? Vodka, industrial glue and a scissors- fixed!

Going to Hess' house for the insurance policy when there is a dozen legitimate reasons for him not to? And once he did, did it ever occur to him that Hess' wife could be someone good to set up before his brother? A little shuffling on his end could lead to a trail a long way from him being that he's an insurance agent for cripe's sake.

The spaceships ruined it. Was a great season though. Brilliant acting and storyline.

Yeah the spaceship scenes were pretty weird. Not sure why they adding that but I enjoyed season 2 nonetheless.

Would rate this season 9/10

The way this show likes to tie seasons into each other, if I had to guess the spaceships will show up in season 3. Maybe they'll explain them more then? idk

They'll never explain the UFO's. It's just supposed to be a random element to the story. Supposedly there were a few UFO sightings in the area during that era. That's all it's in reference to.

How would they explain it anyways?
