Fun Fact! Report: Nearly Half Of Detroiters Can’t Read

Charter schools generally out perform regular public schools... the issue in detroit is culture (or lack thereof, like chiraq).

That is complete horseshit. Give me a source for that drivel you pass off as conversation.

From your article:
"But public education advocates say that they fear she will help propel America’s public education system toward destruction." In Detroit half of the population is illiterate and teachers are paid handsomely until the grave. There is no reason to pay more than 6k a year per student anywhere in the U.S. on education; why does the fed spend more on education in the hood in areas where no one pays for government services or even a water bill?

So "for profit" schools will change this? Up your game.

I couldn't find it, the USA didn't give UNESCO the literacy data.
All I can find is data about high school, bachelor and advanced degree rates. Funnily enough California has a fair amount of advanced degrees but also the biggest amount of high school dropouts.
Not that surprised. On a global scale the economic disparity between countries has decreased but within them it has increased. I could see something similar happening to states. There won't be rich and poor states, just poor parts of town and rich ones all neatly segregated. Poor kids have a choice between a poorly funded and understaffed public school or a few shitty charter schools while the rich kids are attending prep schools. Maybe we'll see a few walls pop up in Cali cities separating the gentrified parts of town and the yet-to-be gentrified parts of town.
I think all of these are appropriate:

Maybe not the best example. Chappelle basically says that the kids at his high school and hometown are trapped and if they want out they need to learn to entertain white people though rap or basketball or just deal crack.

School vouchers.

When your voucher runs out of money, you just grab your bootstraps.

What about when the community can't afford to pay for the services of 130k administrators or pensions anymore?

Sounds like there's gonna be a rise in bootstrap sales all around...

I like how you make fun of that, but that was what the black population was doing back before the 60s when their test scores and graduation rates were comparable to whites, so was their marriage rates and wedlock birth rates.

You are black aren't you, did you get to where you are in life by doing something besides crime and laziness (like pulling yourself up by your bootstraps) or did you just have random fuckin luck? I don't know your up bringing to say if you were poor and from the hood so I will not stereotype you.
But even if you were middle class or poor you got to be where you are at by making something of yourself. WHY is that? are you special? You just one of the lucky ones?

Dude watch the Detroit night time videos. Do you really think an app on an iPad will solve their education problems or are you just trying to be politically correct?
No, it goes beyond apps. I'm far from PC, but it will change the way we teach kids, and is far more engaging.

Wow. Stereotype much?

You think that the majority of Black people in the ghetto WANT to be there? There IS a system in place to keep those in the Ghetto, IN the ghetto. But if I talk about that, I'm "making excuses."

You know sooooo much about the Black experience in America, but when it comes down to it, all you do is point fingers, and call us "Those People."

You have zero experience as a Black person, but you'll always want to tell Black people how to live their lives and "better themselves."

That is the Epitome of White Privilege.

Good luck being taken seriously by using ideologically-driven language like "the system", "the Black experience", "White Privilege".

Use real language and talk about specific information or don't bother.

These schools need more than just good teachers. They need good nurses, psychologists, and mentors on site. Even then, it will take a couple generations to see results.

I say what I want, if you don't like it then wuss out and put me on ignore.

It's just that simple.

And before anyone I put on ignore complains, I only put people on ignore if they've shown me blatant racism.

Exactly right. These kids are constantly in "Fight or Flight" mode due to where they have to live. When the brain is exposed to that constantly set those chemical responses, it's bound to mess with people.
