"Where did you study German history? The NRA?" Lol, I admit that I chuckled a bit.
Back to the main point, just to be clear. The article that you cited above has to deal with the debate of whether "The claim that gun regulations in
Nazi Germany helped facilitate the rise of the Nazis." That is what the article that you referenced is about.
I personally think an armed populace helps keep the government in line. It is harder for a government to enforce mass tyranny with an armed populace. That is my opinion. You can disagree with this opinion, that is fine. And are correct that this is heavily debated.
What we can't disagree with is that Germany did take away guns from the German people and said it was due to hunting accidents. You can't disagree with this statement as it is a historical fact. What you can say, is that even though Germany took away the guns from the populace, it had nothing to do with the atrocities that were later committed as the German populace was not heavily armed anyways, would have happened regardless, etc.
There are numerous other examples of the government turning on it's own people. The question is whether or not an armed populace would help prevent such a thing. I guess it really comes down to if you trust the government. I don't. Not even a little. I don't trust the Republicans and certainly not the Democrats. The smaller the government is, the more I trust it.
