Front Squats vs Hack Squats

What would you say front squats are better for?

i guess you wouldn't really simulate the back squat in non-gym life. You bend down and pick something or someone up, you do more of a front squat.

Or would it more closely resemble a zercher lift? oooooo

Front Squats are a great lift. Best done on a Smith machine to avoid injury. Front squats with a loose bar can put undo pressure on the mid / upper back area, especially if you have strong legs and need to use alot of weight.

Ok, I got this guys. I'll be nice at first. Smith machines lock you into a linear groove. Not your natural groove. Over the long term this leads to injuries. The longer the range of motion of the exercise, the worse the smith machine is for it. Plus they require no balance or coordination which limits their effectiveness compared to free weights. If your mid/upper back isn't strong enough to hold the weight your legs can move, then I'd say you need to keep doing front squats with a barbell until they are. Also its not a good idea to worry about what muscle group is getting the most work with any exercise. The point is to get better at the exercise. Function first. You won't get good at free weight front squats, by doing them on a smith machine, and no smith machine lift is a good lift, or even a lift at all in my book. Its an action performed on a contraption.

i like both lifts. personnalyt id say front squat is a little bit better, but hacks are nice as well.
