according to this stat page Romero scored more takedowns... in fact the freestyle wrestler was the only person in his Pro fight career to take him (weidman) down more often than he took his opponent down further supporting the theory that the superior takedown skills of freestyle are more relevant in MMA than the turtle riding in Turtle turning of folkstyle

One can clearly see that the less refined takedown skills of folk style wrestling is what cost weidman this fight

romero is more of an striker than a wrestler, his ground game sucks and his tdd also sucks.

khabib is a sambo wrestler... more than than is a hell of agrappler, his ground game is top notch.

theres been a shit ton of folk wrestlers dominating mma, freestyle? not so much, and russians have been around the block for quite some time, you take out khabib and whos left? zabit hasnt won anything just yet. Dagestani guys are just tough ass mother fuckers.

In MMA you're dealing with guard primarily

Its the exact opposite position!

folkstyle wrestlers do so well in American MMA not for the reasons most think

folkstyle wrestling is a mediocre martial art...a nerfed version of freestyle

Ground control is simple and easy to learn

The standing game is where wrestlers are most dangerous
