FREESTYLE vs FOLKSTYLE wrestling in UFC...why freestyle DOMINATES in UFC AND wrestling competition

Same thing. US has folkstyle from youth through college, There are some small variations between youth folkstyle and college though, like college has 1 second pin whereas youth is 2 or 3 second now, not sure tbh.

edit yea high school is 2 seconds for a pin, college is 1 second

exactly...americans have FOLKSTYLE wrestling thru their ENTIRE scholastic career and have to convert to freestyle later in life with part time training with coaches that converted to freestyle themselves

meanwhile the REST OF THE WORLD wrestles FREESTYLE from birth

the whole world uses freestyle except the USA...

yet only a TINY handful of freestyle wrestlers get into the UFC and they all have EXTREMELY good records beating most of the folkstyle athletes they encounter in MMA just as they did in wrestling

They have DOMINATED folkstyle athletes in wrestling and MMA for a long time and will continue to do so

In case it hasn't been said, it's common for American folkstyle wrestlers to spend their offseasons training and competing in freestyle and Greco.

yeah 3 days a week in the off season under other americans that converted to freestyle as adults

Khabib, zabit and Romero are primary freestyle wrestlers there has only been a tiny handful of them in the UFC
What about Islam Makhachev?

And I don't know nothing about wrestling but I understand that most american wrestlers have to transition to another type of wrestling if they go to olympics. Is that right?

lol nice excuse on the screen shot. Yea sorry the best wrestler in the world lost to a college kid who had not spent more than 3 months a year doing freestyle.

Henry Cejudo is one of the few american wrestlers who skipped college to focus on freestyle and he won gold. US has the best athlete wrestlers in the world period. If US did freestyle 100% like other countries it wouldn't even be fair, they would win everything

they don't all have extremely good records, only the few who are good enough to make it to the UFC. Khabib is not a freestyle wrestler, he's sambo, he never entered a freestyle wrestling tournament in his entire life. It's like saying Lomachenko is a freestyle wrestler who dominates boxing

Islam like Khabib is a sambo guy, yea they trained wrestling on the side for sure, but they never competed in tournaments or made any national teams, same with Fedor and many other russians. There are very few 100% wrestling russians who have transitioned to MMA and had success. Russian wrestlers who have olympic/world success are reportedly set for life by Putin and Co so that could be part of it

I've seen a few coaches in my days like him no real experience, they are typically yell loud, condition more than they drill and their kids try to out physical you with hand clubbing and intimidation. They were the most satisfying victories

except I have international grappling experience in several different styles in addition to MMA and broke all the schools records where i coached folkstyle wrestling scoring 8x the points in the state championship as any other coach in school history!!

I only wrestled one year in highschool losing 3 times [2 point 1 pin] as our starting heavyweight because I preferred Judo and Kickboxing where I trained with world heavyweight champion Whillam Abdul Jarvis who also came to the MMA club I founded in 1993

After numerous wrestlers came to my MMA club I was convinced to take over my old highschool team since the older coach was quitting and they were gonna shut down the program if i did not

25 years later and i STILL coach wrestling and run a MMA club

BTW in several decades of running MY MMA club not a single athlete walked thru the doors and stopped me with a submission or a KO...not a single man beat me on their 1st day at the Louisville MMA club

I WAS THE DOMINANT ATHLETE at the louisville MMA club for more than a decade and a half AND i went to all the local gyms open mats where I was the dominant grappler for over a decade in the city of louisville KY

nobody tapped me in the city of Louisville KY 1993-2010 on our 1st match and NOBODY has a winning record against me in grappling cumulative ...NOBODY, not one single man!

I have only lost 3 MMA matches and only 1 was unavenged with a controversial stoppage

I Have a lot or verifiable experience and list my real name and bio on this site

25 years and you haven't coached a single kid to a D1 program , you sound great.

My HS coach had at least two all americans I'm aware of and numerous D1/D2 wrestlers

Bro where is your 800 point team score record?
https://khsaa.org/records/wrestling/teamscorerecords.pdf

Joe Carr is that you?? Trying to understand how you scored more team points than someone with 14 team titles and actual accomplished college wrestlers.

LOL

I took a team from last place to middle of the pack and there were ZERO college programs in the area

My kids did fantastic with what they had... just because we never
Won the Big Show doesn't mean that they didn't do their best

You're just trying to shift the focus to my coaching career instead of the fact that freestyle wrestlers beat folk style wrestlers in MMA and wrestling...nice try

we finally got some respect for the sport of wrestling and now its evaporating....I know how you feel

I AM A WRESTLER!!

Even the pitiful pro wrestling is more useful than folkstyle in a real fight.

You're not a wrestler you wrestled for one year

Freestyle = score quickly or else you will be stood up.

American folkstyle = take then down and control them on the ground until you secure a pin or the period ends.

Yes, it is true that American folkstyle is only practice in the US. However, every culture has its own folk style. Kushti, schwingen, ssirem, tigel, sumo, backhold, etc.
