Frank Bruno not a believer in Usyk: he wouldn't make it in my era

Today's heavyweight division may not be the best in terms of craft but you're still having to compete against giants that can really bang and outmuscle you. That makes them extremely dangerous to anyone regardless of your skill level. No longer can a former middleweight or light heavyweight jump up and get their hands on any of the heavyweight world titles. You're unlikely to ever see it again. This happened in previous heavyweight eras. To even hope to be competitive in the heavyweight division nowadays you'd better be a natural cruiserweight at the very least. Otherwise expect to get your head knocked off your shoulders.

Here's Lewis' opinion on how Usyk would've done in his era. According to him, “very well.” He said this before Usyk beat Fury in the rematch. As Lewis also points out Usyk did struggle with Fury's uppercut at times in the first fight (before he adjusted) but it wasn't much of a factor in the rematch. Shorter guys are inherently more susceptible to that shot against opponents who are significantly taller.

Lewis arrogant as always.

Lewis arrogant as always.
yup, bragging about his mean uppercut, I remember him bragging about his jab on some boxing instructional and I never thought his jab was all that special. He was talking like he was Larry Holmes. His best weapon was his smarts, he would have been figureing out what to do from the opening bell, great fighter but I wish someone would slip a muzzle on him.

Usyk would be an average sized HW in any other era probably, even quite big if you went back a bit. And with his skills, yeah he's gonna be a match for pretty much any HW in history.
For reality Usyk had get his HW belt when he already was over the hill.
Imagine for example 220 lbs 30 y.o Usyk without requirements to make weight for process vs 190 lber in Patterson... doesn't looks good chances for Patterson there at all.
Especially if to bear in mind that Usyk always moves even if fans are thinking that he doesn't move in this moment. Usyk is uncle but you value boxers according to their origin and passport. This one.
It is like to call Mike as dumb idiot lurking just for KOs.
Mike under Rooney had ability to box even 12 rounds for cards with a glance and not at all was someone lurking for fast stoppage. More to watch for mistakes and capitalize these mistakes.
Partying era Mike was different.

For you good boxer is according to passport and origin. There is nothing wrong, pretty opposite it is normal thing.

He was incredibly well rounded. But he never knocked out anyone with an uppercut.

not that i can think of, i never thought his jab was that great aesthetically or practically. He bragged, "no one gets away from my jab" after beating old man tyson, that's the kind of bragging that some people never could get past with Lennox. I loved when larry merchant bursted that bullshit in the post fight interview after the Klitchko fight where he was doing his arrogant rambling and not answering why the fight was such a struggle, that's the only time I saw him drop his arrogant bs, taken out of his little game and just answer the fucking question, great job larry, I know they call you an ass but I miss that shit.

That's because Larry reminded Lewis of what he said before the fight. It was meant to humble him and for a brief moment it did. Mission accomplished.

he rattled him, never saw lewis rattled before or since, even in the postfight of the mcall kayo he was acting like he had it all under control and should have been allowed to continue. Great fighter, guess we should be thankful that we had a heavyweight champ that wasn't raping or beating up metermaids and shit but he rubbed me the wrong way.

I forgot he was yanking the mic away from larry:

Lewis stopped Michael Grant with an uppercut
he had power in all his punches, I'm sure he finished guys off with all his power punches, his right cross was the big one though.

here he claims he's not arrogant and that that's the biggest misconception, he expresses his love for Larry too.

A little rattled, yeah. I didn't remember him prying the mic away either. This video is garbage though. I hate when people record their television screens with their cameras. It's lazy. The only other use it has is for circumventing copy protection schemes (analog loophole).

Lewis stopped Michael Grant with an uppercut
He did but only after establishing the type of head control that the ref should've flagged as holding & hitting. I would call it a veteran tactic but they're supposed to be subtle. This was very deliberate.

Frank Bruno has a single win on his record that is half decent, just one, and that is against McCall
And that isnt a fight anyone would ever want to watch lol

Bruno almost lost that one too haha
Yeah I remember the English commentators not caring how bad the fight was, they just wanted him to win it so bad.

I also remember Nigel Benn talkin mad shit to Mccall's corner. He was fucking wanting to throw down right then and there.

90s was a stronger era yes, but Frank himself may well have gone 0-3 against Fury, AJ and Dubois. Usyk would have beaten the brakes off him.
