Media Francis Ngannou on Why he left the UFC

Blaydes isn't scared of Jones in the least bit and might show Jones that there's weight classes for a reason when it comes to wrestling especially. Jones hasn't shown 1 hit KO power that has been Blaydes' weakness in the past.

I know he'll be a HUGE underdog if it happens, but I'll lay some money down for him.

Dana shoots himself in the foot in claiming that Ngannou missed the opportunity to be "the highest paid HW in UFC history".
Because it basically means that other orgs can now pay better money than UFC's maximum...

Not necessarily, just means that Ngannous requests are like conor levels of lucrative, and if another org is willing to pay that much without yielding much of a draw in return, then they are actually shooting themselves in the foot and UFC is dodging a bullet.

It's called business.

That's some serious mental gymnastics. I highly doubt any other MMA organization will offer him more money. The only way he'll make more is if he gets a big boxing fight. Stick a fork in him, he's done on the big stage of MMA.

Francis makes a valid point. Independent contractor means independent. He should be free to do what he wants. If the UFC wants control, make him an employee & provide employee benefits. But that will cost the UFC a fortune.

I’m not an expert, but in the small business world, everything paid to an independent is tax deductible. If this is true for the UFC as well, can you imagine their profit difference if they make their fighters employees?

I bet everyone would be shocked at how much less fighters would make if they were employees. Might be one of those deals where you be careful what you wish for. They might get less than 50% of what they do now if they give up independent contractor status.

The grass is not always greener on the other side. It will be interesting to see how this works out for him. I suspect that there's some shyster promoter out there like DeLaHoya that will try to put something together.

No one cares about that (IMHO). He’s a promoter, he says things.

All a company’s expenses are “deductible” in the sense that companies pay taxes on revenue net of expenses.

Ultimately the promotions are going to offer what they offer. If they have to offer more in benefits, they’ll try to offer less in salary. Since they’ll all be in the same boat I wouldn’t expect it to affect the bottom line too much.

Not really a fan of Francis, but what he did is great for the sport. Hopefully he’ll do great outside the UFC so people don’t say he shouldn’t have left.

So a company can deduct the money they pay an employee just like they do independent money paid to contractors? Even if so, the UFC would still have to cover 50% of their employees SS & medicare tax. Combine that with the added cost of medical coverage & I don’t see any way that doesn’t affect their bottom line
