Francis Ngannou Doesn't Use Supplements... Is The Science Behind Them Weak?

If you were an MMA fighter, would you take supplements?

I never really understood the point in supplements.

If you're a pro fighter, surely you have access to an actual decent dietician. You should be able to cover what you need through diet.

The only stuff you can't get through eating is going to be PEDs surely. Unless you live in Mexico and want some of that sweet sweet Clenbuterol.
Well no they probably do t have a dietitian unless they’re one of the few we’ll payed fighters

Protein powder is really just for people who may struggle to get that extra protein into their diet.
Yeah and there are some hard gainers out there too. One thing it does help a lot of people out with indirectly though is getting them in a routine; I have to go lift so I don’t waste this creatine I bought. It can also be a reward. For a large portion of people who work out though, no they don’t really benefit from it directly

Supplements are the biggest, most widely accepted scam along with democracy and working for a living.

Agree.

Some mad tasting protein out there to....

It does have its benefits A lot of people but protein powder when they start training and think it's gonna be roid like gains lmao.

Hate this tired statement... It's just protein in an easy accessible and (in some cases) fairly cheap form. If you're dumb enough to think it's anything more than that, you're the problem.
If youre dumb enough to swallow that shit with all its chemicals and fake sweeteners then knock yourself out buddy. People gargle that shit like its the mothers milk of training. Try eating properly, the only thing tired here is youre irritatingly gullible imput that its good and LOL cheap.. if its cheap its even more shit. Wasnt claiming that it was the ultimate workout supplement, just that its whey -pun intended-overrated.
You jumping to dumbarse conclusions is the only problem here .

There is probably no need to supplement for the majority of fighters, outside of addressing deficiencies due to dietary restrictions or genetic issues...it's a bullshit industry based on marketing and bro science.

take that money and invest in working with a sports nutritionist who will tailor a diet to suit your needs, hopefully following a battery of blood work.

He says he doesn’t.

For all we know he’s juiced to the gills lol

Yes I have. Which is why I say that.
Im not an elite athlete by any means but i found no difference except being more farty
Protein powder just gives you added protein which you can get from food itself. It's only useful if you trying to cut and are on a low carb diet.

Francis stopped taking them and look where he is now.

A lot of people outside MMA think supplements are glorified placebos with little if any proven benefit. Meanwhile MMA fighters keep getting in trouble for "tainted supplements." If they don't help much or at all, as in the case of Francis, why take them?

Are there any respected scientific studies proving the value of supplements (used by MMA fighters)? Or is it mostly bro science and myths pushed by fake experts trying to make a buck?
the effects of supplements has little to no scientific evidence behind them at all.
they do however have an increasing number of studies showing all the contamination, also proven in some lawsuits, where women started growing beards because of testosterone contamination and so on.
another factor is sponsorship, fighters getting supplements for free. especially for up and coming fighters who need the money, it's easy to fall into problems that way.
this recent JAMA metastudy is quite informative: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2706496

here are some interesting documentaries about it:

if i were a fighter, i wouldn't touch supplements. or maybe if they were on the USADA approved list.

He looked leaner and more shredded than ever against JDS. Nothing that can’t be achieved naturally without dieting and more cardio but most importantly his A+ genes.

I don’t doubt that he doesn’t even take OTC supplements. I believe he’s in the 1% of the clean genetic freaks.

He’s lost a lot of bulk and looks more natty compared to his earlier days ...not saying he wasn’t clean before but if he was then I’m certain he still is now.

he's talked a lot about improving his cardio recently, i guess dropping some muscle mass has been a part of that process

I take a bunch for health related stuff, not for performance and there are people who say they do nothing but my thinking is, they're not gonna hurt so if there's a chance my heart stays stronger, longer, than why not?

He looks exactly like a friend of mine who is 6’5 and black did when he was taking sustanon and trenbolone and hypertrophy training twice a day for 1-2 hours each time.

If that’s his natural genetics the guy really is a freak

Supplements are meant to supplement an already good protocol, not replace it. They might give another 5% on recovery or endurance. But they're not going to make a human shit stain an elite athlete.

This pretty much sums up about the best of what supplements are ever going to do for some one.

In most cases they are worthless and do next to nothing. It's all just propaganda that sells this shit. Once you get beyond basically all purpose daily vitamin, whey protein, and some of the recovery shakes it's mostly just snake oil after that.

Chances are high people taking all the other shit more or less is nothing but a mental thing to them thinking its doing something.

One day Paula Costa will move up to HW KO that Predator looking mofo Ngannou and show everyone who the real all natural bodybuilding UFC Champion is.

That’s the thing. Your friend had access to all the food/nutrition, gear, supplements, gym, training equipment and knowledge just to look like Ngannou.

Look at Ngannou performing manual labor in Cameroon just so he could afford to buy what little peasant food he could to survive. Do you really think tren and sust is readily available in Cameroon and even if it were would it be affordable to a guy that’s shoveling dirt for some bread?

You look at that frame and muscle mass and you’d think man that guy must eat like a king, have access to the best gear and weight train multiple hours a day. No. Life isn’t fair but freaks do exist.
