Terrible shit.
I think you could argue that the auto industry in the US has had a kind of informal protectionism achieved by the kinds of cars Americans and Europeans(and Japanese/Koreas/etc) drifting ever further apart. Not only does it mean the same models can't be sold to different markets as easily but I think to import things like pickups to the US would put you at a much bigger disadvantage against domestic producers in terms of taxation.Americans build shitty over sized cars with massive tech all designed to fail that people in Europe don't want and cant use. they find American cars to be gluttonous and repulsive even. Europeans have way cheaper cars that last a long time. why would they buy the trash American auto makers put out?
its the same in the states. cars from Europe and elsewhere that are WAY cheaper and last just as long are not allowed to be sold in the states. our whole auto industry is a steaming pile of shit man.
luxury trucks in Europe? lol. have you seen the size of their streets?
The 3 trucks.
Which are what we make here that doesn't suck
But I guess are too big for Europe's roads and cities ?
I asked him why he thought it was strange in another thread, he seems to think a lack of German f150s is some sort of euro conspiracyThat’s generally not because of tariffs though, everyone else just thinks our cars suck. I was just posting about this in another thread, but Japan doesn’t have tariffs on any foreign cars and ours still don’t sell.
Hold your breath... don't worry... you'll survive.
I grew up with a Step-Father that owned a machine shop for high end engines, dragsters, drag boats, etc. and a Father that raced at Laguna Seca, Sears Point, and was Crew Chief for a Formula 1 driver (Gordon Strom). One of my good friends growing up was Gary Ornsby III NHRA Champion and father that was NHRA World Champion and first man to crack 290 mph in a quarter mile. I've spent a whole lot of time at race tracks and pits.
What do you want to know about engine size? The 428? 427? 454? I love the big 8's and the high performance 6's like Ecoboost 3.5 with turbos used by Ford for NASCAR.
Compare apples with apples? I’m comparing the cars we sport to the cars they buy. I understand there’s differences, but again, nothing is stopping American manufacturers right now from making and exporting cars that the Japanese will go wild for. There was no tariff. Don’t you think if exporting and selling different types of cars to Japan would’ve sold gangbusters, manufacturers would’ve done it already? To be honest, regulations and emissions are totally different, it's why lots of Japanese manufacturers turned to turbos along time ago, there's also a size requirement for Japanese regulations, regarding capacity and actual size of vehicle.... Please compare apples with apples and yes plenty of US brands have poor reliability.... It's a totally different market..... Converted US brands in Oz did very well because it can be a very similar environment.....
But this whole trade deficit business is wrong too. Trade deficits are not inherently bad, we do not necessarily need to close the gap on every trade deficit we have. Trump either doesn’t understand trade deficits at all, or he knows what he’s doing (gouging the public to pay for his tax cuts) and is counting on everyone else not knowing how trade deficits work. It's based on trade deficit. His chart makes a lot more sense when you notice it.

Probably none, because they wouldn’t be able to sell them in Japan, even without the tariff. That’s my point. Are they going to make them cheaper than Japan makes their cars? Doubtful.Nothing stopping them.... How many US companies are building the types of engines and hybrid systems that sell in Japan?
I think you're confusing the manufacturing people with the engineers here. Are you against auto workers constantly demanding more and more money for less work since they're clearly not very good at their jobs and are just slapping together trash? Could probably get those cars cheaper if UAW wasn't so expensive.

I feel like we’re saying the same things here, I agree with what you just said. It's not about cost, the US just doesn't have the type of tech required to sell in the Japanese market and why would you make such an investment in a situation that's so difficult to crack....
The 3 trucks.
Going a little off-topic, but why do you and americans in general like trucks as daily commuters? I can see the point in having them as a second family vehicle to haul things, as american houses are huge and full of stuff, but why not using a sedan or a more compact SUV/crossover as a daily driver? Honest curiosity here.
Appreciated.Well I don't know if I'm right but I will take a shot at it and tell you what I think. There's a few reasons why I think this is a thing.
1 it's sort of cultural depending on where you grew up. Men drives trucks it's just what ya do
2. We're a bunch of fatties and driving a truck is like sitting in your lazyboy or sitting on the couch
3. They are rather useful. You can drive a truck like a car but a car isn't useful like a truck. You might not need to throw a bunch of shit in the ride every day or help someone move or whatever but when it is needed it comes in handy
4. Winter / living in a more rural area. Snow and ice and muddy ass potholed dirt roads are a huge pain in the ass with a car and a truck with 4 wheel drive makes dealing with shitty weather and shitty roads a lot easier. I live in Michigan and I feel like at least one truck in the family is sort of necessary for when the weather turns to shit.
5. They just look cooler than cars
And lastly 6 ....driving a tank just makes you feel safer Tham being in some little ass car sharing the road with all the other tanks.
I think some combo of these things probably covers most guys who drive a truck.
Out west, nearly everybody camps/hunts/fishes and a whole lot of people camp regularly and you just can't even possibly go camping without a truck.Well I don't know if I'm right but I will take a shot at it and tell you what I think. There's a few reasons why I think this is a thing.
