Former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez sentencing this Monday

American sentencing numbers are nuts, I hate to imagine.
I think American sentencing guidelines are correct for violent crimes, but waaaay overkill for non-violent drug crimes. Sometimes i shake my head when I see stories in the news of cold blooded murderers getting paddy cake sentences in Europe. Like how do you cold bloodily murder someone and then walk out of jail in 12 years? LOL.

There are also all kinds of programs in the state system that allow prisoners to earn credits for early release. So the 20% could be bumped to 30-35% if Cain takes advantage of every program available and is a model prisoner. There is a scenario where Cain gets sentenced to 12 yrs and gets out in ~8 yrs. I'd say that is the very best outcome he could hope for.
I get classes offered to me all the time here in NJ on time served and jail credit and all that, and between our normal time, gap time, rosado time, there's already so much shit to deal with, so I'm just not involved with that and try to avoid those classes as much as possible

If Cain’s son doesn’t get molested again, Cain doesn’t shoot anyone else again. Give him a year and call it a day.

Very sad story and I wish Cain would've thought more clearly and found the guy and just got a hold of him instead, it simply would've been his word against Cain's. Fact is though he shot someone who wasn't even the right guy and he will be going away for awhile, unfortunately.

Well I mean, if Cain did that, and as much as I would love to see him take that revenge, he probably ends up either killing the guy or permanently disables him. And then Cain goes away probably forever instead of the sentence he'll get next week.

idk man. Assault where he significantly hurts the guy for life might be less than what he actually did. California and many states have serious "enhancements" when a gun is involved.

5 years? For discharging a firearm in public and nearly killing a dude?

If so, I'd like to see the wizard that is his lawyer. He's getting at least 10 years.
I feel like thats what you'd get in canada.

Not if he got him alone. Then it's simply he said/he said. He could even have close family or friends claim he was with them at the time of the beating. I've done that before.

He should've just beat the brakes off him. Break an arm or a leg and then let the courts handle the pos. I hope he doesn't get over ten.

Just sucks that you know he’s a good guy who screwed up once. But life is about the choices you make and living with the consequences good or bad. All the best to Cain.

Harry Goularte was arrested, charged with felony lewd acts with a minor and there's a trail date set.

So, the state believes the kid is credible, unlike you who thinks Cain's son made this entire thing up.
I believe he wasn't found guilty is all. You do. One of us lives in a revenge fantasy world.

Wrong.

No contest, means a defendant neither admits nor denies guilt, but accepts the consequences of a conviction.

And in a felony trial the plea is still treated the same as a guilty plea when determining sentencing.

You just skip the trial and go right to sentencing. The only benefit in a felony trial is the plea cannot be used against you in a civil trial.

I’m a fan of Cain and if his son was molested, I feel terrible for him. But he tried to play vigilante and shot an innocent man. He doesn’t deserve leniency and sure AF doesn’t deserve probation.

Edit: maybe I should clarify, because I wouldn’t sentence him to the max of 40 either. Maybe 20 years, he’s eligible for parole in 8 with good behavior, something like that.
