Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford dead at age 46

Should we poor some crack out on the sidewalk in honor?

RIP Chris Farley

The guy was treated as a punchline for about a year and now people will pretend to feel sorry for him.

He was an asshole that partied hard, exasperated a lot of people, embarrassed a city and really sucked at his job. He did kind of win me over during that clip when he called the Police chief a "rassclat" in that diner. It was during that time I thought to myself: "He's probably not evil, I bet I can party with him and have a good time."

It's weird how some people use cancer to absolve him of his many many sins, but it does humanize him in a way.

As a fiscal conservative I will miss this guy.

As a mayor, he was awful. However, those in his constituency (when he was a councelor) have always had nothing but glowing things to say about him. Ford was perceived as a "man of the people" - he was probably more comfortable talking to people from Jane/Finch than he was Baystreet.

RIP Ford - Thanks for decades of public services and providing countless entertainment as mayor.

Sprinkle some crack on him, he'll be okay.

The guy made himself a punchline. Sympathy for an idiot is hardly unrealistic. People felt sympathy for Chris Farley when he died, no real difference here.

I would say as a mayor his personal life shined on Toronto poorly, but not his policies. What does that say about the rest of TCC when I would trust a crackhead with my tax dollars over them.

If he died of a drug over dose your comments would hold water. Considering it was cancer they don't.

I think that to people outside of the GTA, he is only known as the "Crack Mayor".

However, for those who followed his career over the past two decades knows that he genuinely cared for the people in his constituency. My first time hearing about Rob Ford was in 2002, as he was the only councelor to not declare any expenses during the fiscal year. He paid all of his office expenses out of his own pocket, as he didn't think it was fair for taxes to pay for "the lavish life of a politician". I don't think he was ever really cut out to be mayor for a city like Toronto (which given it's status as global city, requires a certain amount of finesse and decorum in their politicians). He was however a kick ass counselor.

I am genuinely saddened to hear about this news. To see a man who was so full of life/fun/fight cut down by cancer at such a young age is sombering. If anything it serves as a reminder to live life on your own terms, because you never know when the big C (or any other random act of God), can strike you down.

What? He wasn't famous or ridiculed for cancer, he was ridiculed because he was a fat drug addict with a tendency towards absurd and outrageous behavior.

I agree whole heartedly. His policies were sound, but they were overshadowed by his erratic behavior. I think his comment of "I've got more than enough to eat at home" will go down as the GOAT political one liner.
