Media Adrian Yanez speaks out following his split decision loss to Daniel Marcos

Yanez went from looking like a world beater to losing 3/4. Oof

He learned the hard way that nothing but 1-2 boxing will only get you so far.

I like Yanez, but the dude is so fucking limited. No footwork, can't deal with leg kicks, fuck all kicks of his own, no grappling threat. He doesn't set up his boxing, and his boxing is nothing but the same combo over and over.

He's never going to go much further than he currently is unless he learns a whole new set of tools, and I can't see him doing that at 31, especially when he doesn't even seem to be trying.

Yanez is a quality fighter but his 5-0 run was against extremely weak competition that made him look better than he is, his best win is a split decision vs Davey Grant. He also looked way smaller than Marcos and is a pretty small BW. With that being said he's always a must watch action fighter that will be a good fight for guys just outside of the rankings, that 25-15 range.

I think Yanez vs Garbrandt would be a super fun fight. Talbott if he beats Barcelos would also be awesome.

Yanez needs to level up his skill set. Ppl have figured him out and it will only get worse. Dude needs to up his cardio, at his level you can't hope for a ko/tko because you have done it before.

I knew Yanez would drop off after he got hurt by Randy Costa. He won that fight but it got hairy.

Yanez has a similar issue that Mcgregor did, in that he likes to counter, but will bite on literally everything and waste energy. He also has some positioning issues and stands tall at times.

Good observation.

He also doesn't have a plan B if his striking isn't working out. His 3 losses have been to guys who were besting him standing and there wasn't alot of attempts to do anything besides continue standing and lose.

His speed is what drew me to him in the beginning but so far he's not working out as well as I thought.

Jimmie Rivera 2.0. Great boxer but nothing else. He’s also pretty small for the division.

I don't remember if he threw them in other fights, but he definitely threw leg kicks against Marcos.

Yeh, he did throw a few against Marcos and some were landing good. But like Yanez needs to use everything more. Just adding a few basic leg kicks here and there is fine, but he needs to be using them as feints as well, along with boxing feints. It seems all Yanez plans to do in fights is get into mid range, stand still and head hunt.

It just doesn't work that well against better fighters.
