For those who live in places with cold winters, What winter clothes do you wear?

That s a misleading statement. The cold will weaken you and make your immune system more vulnerable punctually, so that viruses and bacterias will infect you.

Go outside in the cold freezing rain for half an hour in a t shirt and enjoy your pneumonia.

If there are no viruses or bacteria in the area it doesn't matter how cold it gets you won't get sick. Pneumonia comes from bacteria/viruses.

My Carhartt jacket is my go-to in low temps. I went for a walk in -35, upper body was warm and my legs were numb from cold lmao.

I also enjoy looking like an ugly blob (no sarcasm, it's comfy).

I just wear layers. Because I'm usually going from the warm car to the freezing parking lot, to a warm building, etc.

The temperature just changes so often that if I wear a big puffy coat I end up being too hot.

So I'll wear a T-shirt, then some kind of long sleeve button up shirt or maybe a hoodie. Then on top I put a wind and water resistant jacket.

I never bother with thermals unless I know I'm going to be outside for a long time.

Traditional Filson red/black 'Elmer Fudd" jacket... old school, thick wool... expensive but bulletproof, wind proof and you will pass it down in your will(made to last forever)

Or a light LL Bean puffer.

I’ve come to the conclusion I’d rather live in hot as fuck weather then windy ass winter. At least when it’s hot you can get out and do things. That wind chill can kill you quick tho

1. Base layer that breathes to get rid off excess moisture but traps air pockets, if its really cold sometimes even a mesh base layer.
2. Merino/cashmir/alpaca wool sweater
3. wind (+) waterproof outer layer depending on the weather -> if below -15°C I will throw on an insulated outer layer
4. accessories like scarves, gloves, 2nd pair of socks.

I make sure to keep my hands, feet, neck warm but prevent sweating.

Because it doesn’t snow here. At least, not more than once every 30 years, but it can get down to 32 degrees some nights.

So I wear a coat.

My recent addition is a fantastic Icelandic wool sweater.

Merino wool buff scarf

Wool hat.

I like leather gloves, jacket and jeans with that.

It's important to have nothing baggy, nice overlaps, layers and always plan to be too warm and take things off as you go. Wool stays warm even when wet, temperature regulates too so you rarely are over warm.

I got this coat, the ThruDark Shroud last year and it's preformed great. Tough, entirely waterproof and very warm, huge too: I'm 6'6 and the S/M is almost big for me, see:

Yes except if you live alone like a hermit, people will expose you to viruses and bacteria. Also, our bodies are natural shitholes full of bacteria which attack us continuously. Our ears, throats and sinuses are already full of bacteria that can fuck us up when our immune system is compromised.

You can and will get sick in cold climate if you don‘t cover yourself.

Something that I discovered a bit too late in my life is the importance of wearing a hood which helps to keep the insulation chain unbroken. I would rank a hood super high IMO, much higher than a scarf.

Another thing that I noticed is that while baggy clothes are no good, I feel warmer in my cheap, light Decathlon jacket than I feel in my proper heavy down Columbia jacket. Reason is that there is more room in the cheap jacket, which means warm air against my body. In contrast the heavy Columbia jacket is tightly fit and I „feel“ the jacket directly against me.

All of the above is anecdotal rambling based on personal experience which may or may not be total horseshit.
