Hey guys Helwani just posted to his twitter that it was RDA and his shady manager Ali Abdelaziz who requested Herb Dean for the main event of 196, is this because RDA influenced Herb to stop the Cerrone fight and he's hoping to do the same to Conor?

But he's playing with fire, because we all saw that Herb Dean stopped McGregor/Mendes fight like 3 seconds after Mendes went down and McGregor didn't even look up to Herb to get this result and the fact that the round would end like in 5 seconds was completely ignored... Fighters shouldn't be able to request the ref they want. That's just asking for trouble. I understand fighters being allowed to refuse certain refs, but they shouldn't be able to pick the ones they want.

Herb was pretty fair in the mendes fight, Conor was looking to be stood up and herb said "he's fighting" and let Chad continue

Plus I think the stoppage was fair, Chad was turtled and if the fight would have continued, it just would have meant more unasmwered punches.

In either case, this conspiracies look BAD and shows he is a very bad pick for this fight.

Why wouldn't they want Herb though? He's been the most consistently good ref in MMA. He's made mistakes but so has everyone.

Mendes was done? There was about 5 seconds left in the round, and as soon as Herb declared it over, Chad popped up, smiled, and went over and congratulated Conor.

Not saying that Conor wouldn't of still beat him, but that was definitely a controversial call for Dean to jump in 2 seconds after Mendes went to his knees.

I think Dean has become a little bit inconsistent in the last year. Remember Dillashaw and Barao fought shortly after Conor and Mendes which he reffed and Barao took a ridiculous amount of punches before it was stopped. Should have stopped Weidman and Rockhold as well.

Refs will always get scrutinized for making mistakes more than making good calls. I suppose there was a case that Conor and Mendes was for the interim title and the round should have been ended by the buzzer and not the ref.

It's a tough gig having to make those split decision calls, but I'd imagine fighters would rather the fight was stopped later than early. Unless they're blatantly knocked/choked out cold.
