The closest 'Delta' gets to the water is the 'Combat Diver Qualification Course' for U.S. Army Special Forces at Key West, Florida. Nothing classified about SEAL, Delta, or Special Forces training.
Well that's not exactly true. A lot of the course material is classified Confidential and Secret from what I understand, especially courses like SERE. Most the schools themselves aren't classified, although it wouldn't surprise me if the Tier 1 guys were going to courses that don't exist.
I just had a bad experience with the Seal Teams in Iraq. My Infantry goon squad was having a movie night before we shipped out to Baghdad from KNB and they fucking whined to our CO about the godamn volume. Among other incidents.
Funny enough I had a really bad experience with the team guys in Ramadi. They fucked up a few missions that I was on as a supporting element. A couple firefights I caught them hiding behind cover while Marines were getting some.
I dunno. I watched Lone Survivor and was just like...tie them up and leave them there..what you fuckers don't carry flex cuffs? Jesus. Or. Two. Walk further!! They went like 200 meters and bedded down. Walk the fuck out of the AO!!!
The entire movie is a complete lie. There's several major discrepancies between the movie and the actual after action report. For one they never actually saw Ahmad Shah during the recon, and he had zero affiliation with Bin Laden. Second, there wasn't anywhere near a hundred fighters. The intelligence reports indicate at most there was maybe a dozen men at most during the Recon team's ambush. The Taliban filmed most of the fighting and there was barely any fighters filmed in any shot you look at. Finally, they probably didn't kill any fighters at all during the firefight. They were attacked from 3 sides with heavy weapons and pretty much got fucked. It's highly unlikely they killed anyone and no enemy dead were found in Operation Red Wings 2, the recovery operation. Marcus sold a book that was a complete fabrication of events and the movie was even worse. The worst part of it all is the Navy approved that propaganda disgrace to those who lost their lives.
That whole mission was a super cluster fuck of bad decisions. They were told beforehand but senior team members that they weren't qualified to do the recon mission. They were also told by senior team members that it wasn't safe to go in with only 4 men because of enemy activity. They failed to bring a machine gun for supporting fire in case they took contact. They were warned by senior team members about the fact that they were likely to get soft contact and had no plan in place to deal with it. They were also warned by senior team members that they would likely have radio issues because they had previously had that problem, and again no plan. Once they hit the ground, they didn't even bother to hide the fact that they were dropped off by helo. The entire valley knew they were there and had found their footprints. It's even claimed that the enemy forces that they knew from the start about the team and simply waited until the goat herders were released rather than snitched on by them.
And the craziest thing about the entire story is that the guy who saved Marcus claimed that he still had all his magazines of ammunition that he had left with. Not sure if it's true, but they are supposed to be buddies so I'm not sure why he would lie about it.
All in all. SEALs are generally above average fighters but they should stick to the water where they belong. They don't belong in the city fighting insurgents and they don't belong in the mountains fighting the Taliban.
