For $250,000 would you.......................?

I'd probably do it for $250,000.

The key to making it is not splashing around and making a bunch noise. That's the only reason a shark would bother attacking a human.. or maybe if you were bleeding. The things is, sharks use their sonar senses to detect animals or other fish that are in high concentration of blubber. That's who they'd prefer to attack.

It's crazy how well they can tell this through the water. Humans in general don't make good feed because we hardly have fat compared to seals. If you don't flail around in the water, we'd basically be off of their radar.

sure, I'd just make sure to bring my boys with me.

did you just say sharks use their "sonar senses"?????

Sharks have great sense of smell, decent eyesight and they can detect the electromagnetic current of even small animals but they don't have sonar.

I won't even close my eyes when I shampoo are you kidding me?

Well I don't know what you call it. I know that the current dolphins emit is called sonar.

dolphins emit sounds, the sound bounces off objects and returns to the dolphins, they have a liquid filled cavity in the lobe of their heads that allows them to decipher the sound waves into an image. Sonar isn't a matter of emitting a special signal, its about detecting and deciphering sounds. Submarines use active sonar where they send out a specific sound that bounces back and passive sonar that is basically just searching for sounds from other sources, that's why submarines are designed to run as quietly as possible and subs only use active sonar when they absolutely have to, kind like shooting a tracer bullet...... works as well for the enemy to find you and for you to find them.

Sharks don't have that ability, the electromagnetic sensory is the closest thing to that but it also has the effect of them being curious and investigating things like boat props and other metal objects which wouldn't be a big deal except their "investigating" usually involves biting.

hell no.

though i seriously doubt a shark would want to eat my skinny ass, i ain't taking no chances.

Probably , can cover that in a little over a minute and I think the chances of being attacked are probably quite slim. Its not like tons of people don't surf without being eaten.

I reckon a slow breast stroke or back stroke would be better than going full out in a front crawl. It would take longer, but they say it's the splashing that attracts them the most.

How about some dares?

Most of us would of seen footage of those great white sharks down in South Africa breaching out of the water when hunting seals. On some documentaries fake seals are towed behind a boat to try and get a shark to attack and breach and it always seems to work.
Now, for a quarter of a million dollars would you go to that area, jump out of a boat, swim 75 metres over to another boat, then jump on board?
Oh yeah, in the middle of the night?

Yeah. I wouldn't stay on the surface to make that swim though. I would get a couple meters under the surface while swiming and only surface to take another breath. Of course I wouldn't splash at all or make a lot of fantic movements.

What those shows don't often show you is them chumming the water to bring sharks down.

I dunno. I watched Lone Survivor and was just like...tie them up and leave them there..what you fuckers don't carry flex cuffs? Jesus. Or. Two. Walk further!! They went like 200 meters and bedded down. Walk the fuck out of the AO!!!

I think we are derailing our friend's thread. I'm not a SEAL, God forbid. I was an U.S. Army soldier. Don't care much for water. Forget flex cuffs, option 4 would have been to take those 3 prisoners with you out of there or at least 500 meters out before you release them. Why the fuck didn't anyone think of that? Oh, wait, they are U.S. Navy SEALs, that explains it. :) But really, they are good guys, some are cocky as shit, but hey, we have cocky soldiers in the Army also.

Uh, I'd do that on a dare, so, yeah. Double-dog dare or $500 cash minimum. If you want to overpay the fuck out of me, awesome. 75 yards isn't nothing, but it's really not that far.

Ha , probably not a bad approach. Do your best " I'm not a seal impression " I suppose.

The closest 'Delta' gets to the water is the 'Combat Diver Qualification Course' for U.S. Army Special Forces at Key West, Florida. Nothing classified about SEAL, Delta, or Special Forces training.

Well that's not exactly true. A lot of the course material is classified Confidential and Secret from what I understand, especially courses like SERE. Most the schools themselves aren't classified, although it wouldn't surprise me if the Tier 1 guys were going to courses that don't exist.

I just had a bad experience with the Seal Teams in Iraq. My Infantry goon squad was having a movie night before we shipped out to Baghdad from KNB and they fucking whined to our CO about the godamn volume. Among other incidents.

Funny enough I had a really bad experience with the team guys in Ramadi. They fucked up a few missions that I was on as a supporting element. A couple firefights I caught them hiding behind cover while Marines were getting some.

I dunno. I watched Lone Survivor and was just like...tie them up and leave them there..what you fuckers don't carry flex cuffs? Jesus. Or. Two. Walk further!! They went like 200 meters and bedded down. Walk the fuck out of the AO!!!

The entire movie is a complete lie. There's several major discrepancies between the movie and the actual after action report. For one they never actually saw Ahmad Shah during the recon, and he had zero affiliation with Bin Laden. Second, there wasn't anywhere near a hundred fighters. The intelligence reports indicate at most there was maybe a dozen men at most during the Recon team's ambush. The Taliban filmed most of the fighting and there was barely any fighters filmed in any shot you look at. Finally, they probably didn't kill any fighters at all during the firefight. They were attacked from 3 sides with heavy weapons and pretty much got fucked. It's highly unlikely they killed anyone and no enemy dead were found in Operation Red Wings 2, the recovery operation. Marcus sold a book that was a complete fabrication of events and the movie was even worse. The worst part of it all is the Navy approved that propaganda disgrace to those who lost their lives.

That whole mission was a super cluster fuck of bad decisions. They were told beforehand but senior team members that they weren't qualified to do the recon mission. They were also told by senior team members that it wasn't safe to go in with only 4 men because of enemy activity. They failed to bring a machine gun for supporting fire in case they took contact. They were warned by senior team members about the fact that they were likely to get soft contact and had no plan in place to deal with it. They were also warned by senior team members that they would likely have radio issues because they had previously had that problem, and again no plan. Once they hit the ground, they didn't even bother to hide the fact that they were dropped off by helo. The entire valley knew they were there and had found their footprints. It's even claimed that the enemy forces that they knew from the start about the team and simply waited until the goat herders were released rather than snitched on by them.

And the craziest thing about the entire story is that the guy who saved Marcus claimed that he still had all his magazines of ammunition that he had left with. Not sure if it's true, but they are supposed to be buddies so I'm not sure why he would lie about it.

All in all. SEALs are generally above average fighters but they should stick to the water where they belong. They don't belong in the city fighting insurgents and they don't belong in the mountains fighting the Taliban.
