@therealdope is a cyclist too but maybe only on the road? He might have some insight on folding bikes.
Came in here to post this. This is what I have.
Something weird about an American soldier boasting the name of a German WWII unit. Wasn't it an Waffen SS unit as well?
@Merlotte @therealdope
My plan was to build a gravel bike but the shop run out of cyclocross frame for my size so now I'm planning to build basically a 29'er with rigid fork and a drop bar. 80% urban riding and 15% light to moderate trails.
Talk me out of it.
I think the gravel bike is a great idea. My Diverge expert came with 38s and I bought 33s for the better weather when it dries up. No problems on gravel, ice, snow and mud. Obviously at 45psi and knobby 38s it's not going to roll like a carbon road frame with 25s at 95psi, but it's still a great platform. The disc brakes are a must.

That Salsa you posted is nice. I used to not like gravel bikes and fixed forks but after playing around in WA state parks I really started to enjoy my 29er. Salsa makes a nice frame and aggressive tires really cut down on the amount of flats I experienced in the city. Do it!@Merlotte @therealdope

The Salsa is just an example of the geometry I'm going for. It's probably way over my budget. Did you miss your suspension fork during your trail rides? I'm not planning on doing any technical riding. I just want that's good enough for trails yet faster on the road than a normal mtb.That Salsa you posted is nice. I'm saving for a Salsa Mukluk(fat bike) to use next winter. Got to ride a donor several weeks ago and was blown away.
Thoughts on something like this?

Should I go 27.5 or 29?

I will keep that in mind. Would you recommend a 27.5 over a 29 as an all rounder?27.5s will give you option of larger tires. A lot of the gravel riders go with 650b to accomodate 50mm tires.

This has been helpful:If you think you'll want the option of putting larger tires on, then 27.5 is better. If you want a smoother ride over roots and rocks, then 29 is better. It depends on what is more important to you.
I think 27.5 is a bit of a quirky segment.

Thoughts? The way they compared the 2, I think I'm leaning towards a 29.
You and @Merlotte's have been helpful itt. Thanks.
It must be hard to bike with a flag up your ass. You might want to find another way to show your patriotism.
