Flukiest wins in UFC history

Anderson Silva vs Rio

It might have been the case had Anderson been winning the entire fight, then boom sub outta nowhere.

But Chonan had been matching Silva strike for strike for 3 rounds when the submission happened, and with the tendency of PRIDE judges to give the win to the smaller fighter if the fight is really close, "Piranha" would have likely won a decision had the fight lasted 2 more minutes.

Fedor's PRIDE loss should have been a "no contest" since it was caused by accidental headbutt, but they had a tournament format, and needed a winner to advance, and it couldn't be Fedor because of the cut. That's a pretty big fluke.
You're mixing that fight up with Fedor vs TK 1...

If Browne never got injured I do believe he would’ve become a legit contender. The weird flat footed boxer was one of the worst style changes I’ve seen #Edmundbless
Damn right, when Browne won on his hellbows run he was terrifying.

Brutal finishes over Gonzaga (when beating him still meant something), Ubereem and Barnett... he was a pretty big favorite over Werdum in their first fight, with a 16-1-1 record (and the Bigfoot loss was considered a fluke back then), and many saw him as the future champ.

The difference between Hapa during the first Werdum fight (even if he lost) and the second was very concerning.

some things transcend category, special jaw dropping moments are rare, soak it in ..

Masvidal and Mike Thomas Brown practiced that knee countless times. It was in their training videos. Planned.

All i know is if anyone says Silva vs Weidman 1 was a fluke, when it abso-fucking-lutely was NOT a fluke, just hates that Silva finally got caught doing something he's done multiple times, a.k.a. closing around like a dumbass, trying to bait counters, its NOT a fluke if he's done it multiple times.

Curious what everyone thinks.
Yes, i know everyone has different definitions of a "fluke", so I'll leave it open. My definition of a fluke is that if they fought that person multiple times they would almost always prevail. Not counting weird DQ losses (Jones/Hamill) or close decisions.

Some contenders

GSP/Serra
Struve/Miocic
Islam/Martins
Nunes/Penne
Hughes/Hallman
Anderson Silva/some of his PRIDE losses
Hot take: Jones / Gane ?1?

I need to watch that one, MTB was one of my favorite WEC guys, and sadly one of the least discussed champs there days... but there was a time he was in the p4p lists and was in talk for FW greatest.

His 2 wins over prime Faber were huge, the first one was such a massive upset... José Aldo beating MTB is still one of the best performances from the Brazilian IMHO
Lots of well placed low kicks, great takedown defense, mixes-up punches and kicks with great speed and accuracy, and finishes the fight with a takedown + GnP... Aldo was on fire that night.

I'm glad that MTB was able to become such a successful coach, instead of staying around too long taking loss after loss

Amen. Great post. I jumped out of my seat when he caught Faber after Urijah tried that stupid ass reverse elbow. MTB is a top tier coach. As you stated, I'm glad he's finally getting some recognition as such. He's been integral to many a fighter's success at ATT.

To think, he used to be the guy who answered the phones at the front desk just so he could train there.

Kind of hard to say it was a fluke when that was the fight where Anderson went over a cliff and wasn't a good fighter anymore; plus he was fighting tougher competition where you could not afford to clown like you could with all of the weak competition Anderson was fighting at MW before that.

Yep, it's just that a whole lot more than the average troll/dummy posters say/believe the 1st one was a fluke!

I'll give them the 2nd one, even though Teh Chris was also dominating the fight before the leg break, but by their same logic(for #2) Chris's fight where he snapped his own leg would be a fluke too then.

Hell all the fights that end in accidental leg kick self leg break would be considered fluke.

All I know is the 1st Silva vs Teh Chris was absolutely NOT a fluke!

Edit: Also Silva losing to Chonan by flying sub was NOT a fluke either, especially since Silva was also losing that stand up/fight!

No, those fights weren't flukes given he was fighting someone who at the time was better than Anderson. A fluke is generally considered when a lesser fighter wins by chance (a situation that the fighter could not repeat in this lifetime basically), which wasn't the case in any of those. It isn't a fluke if the better fighter wins.

You're just being mean.

Anybody mention Yair/Zombie?

The motion and intent weren't flukey, it was flukey because of when it landed. 4:59 of Round 5 with a devastating KO from outta nowhere? Yeah that's gotta be exquisitely rare.
Zombie was winning an easy decision then with 5 sec left Yair hits a lucky elbow from a crazy angle with Zombie moving into it.

This is the definition of a fluke win.

Masvidal victory over Till

He was getting lit up until that KO and this has been the beginning of the end for Darren in MMA
