No way does DeSantis lose to Crist, that guy isn't liked by anyone here and Florida is moving from purple to red. And while it has been disappointing that DeSantis has been pandering a lot to the dumbest groups of people in the country lately over the past 6 months, he has generally been a no-nonsense doer up until recently which I think most people here recognize.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A 16-year-old patient at Wolfson Children’s Hospital died from COVID-19 Thursday, according to a statement from the hospital.
“The death of a child is always tragic, and our hearts are with the family as they grieve this loss,” the hospital said. “We are unable to comment further due to patient privacy laws.”

Baptist Health reported Thursday that 16 of its 550 COVID patients were at Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Four of those 16 children are said to be in the intensive care unit.

3 Florida Educators Die Of COVID-19 Within 24 Hours As Schools Prepare To Reopen

Less than a week before schools are set to reopen in Florida's Broward County, local union officials say three educators have died of complications from the coronavirus. The deaths were all recorded within a 24-hour span, according to union officials representing employees of the local school district.

Broward Teachers Union President Anna Fusco said the start of the new school year has been a mix of emotions as the first day approaches.
"The whole excitement of going back was just running through our teachers when we went back to work on Wednesday," Fusco told NPR by phone Saturday. "And then the sense of anxiety that our governor's interfering with the safety protocols and wanting to block the mask mandate because they know it's an extra layer of protection. And then the deaths that were reported."

Fusco said 48-year-old Pinewood Elementary teacher and union steward Janice Wright, 49-year-old Dillard Elementary teacher Katina Jones and 49-year-old teaching assistant Yolonda Hudson-Williams, also of Dillard Elementary, were the educators who lost their lives to COVID-19 this past week.

None of them were vaccinated, Fusco said.

I figured a show down was going to happen between the Florida governor and school distracts. Biden has been pushing for a fight with the Florida governor and other other GOP governors - and the teachers unions work along with Democrats. Will be interesting to see how this all turns out.

I saw here in Florida that one poll found a slight majority of Floridians in favor of Desantis's position.

Sounds like a bold authoritarian move to me. Removing public funding from the education system has long term implications on children's learning of which the effects are compounding whereas a mask mandate just means they have to wear a mask which has little to no effect on the individual.

It's a compliance move that is solely about flex and not based on good governance.
