According to the Wall Street Journal, as of January 2023, the number of children under the age of 14 committing murder is the highest it's been in nearly two decades. In Philadelphia, there were 81 juveniles killed by gunfire in 2021 and 2022 compared to 153 in New York City, a 6-year-high, and 16 in Washington D.C., a 56% increase from 2021.

Legal gun owners the demographic that makes up the overwhelming majority of US gun owners (400 million civilian owned firearms in estimate). aren’t in the streets shooting people. The largest group of the suicide statistic leans toward more whites and rural areas of the county. This has been tracked since the federal government started keeping statistics when it was the FBI crime stats they used in previous years. We exist in a country of 400 million guns.
We have had 16 million first time gun owners in the last two years.
We need to fund gun education and get the information to these people that most police departments have free gun locks and safe storage especially within households with young children is essential.

There aren't stats on what percentage of gun owners own their weapons legally but presumably yes legal owners outnumber illegal ones.

There also isn't much on what percentage of illegal shootings are done with illegal guns. However what there is does indicate that most crimes and murders involving guns are done with illegally-owned firearms. Mass shootings are overwhelmingly done with legal guns however.

Most mass shooters aren't worth talking about. If a mass shooting is over crime-related situations, we don't count it as a mass shooting as a matter of convention because it isn't the sort of mass shooting we care about.

For example, if I buy grapes, bananas, apples, and tomatoes, how many kinds of fruit did I buy? The autistic answer is 4 because tomatoes are technically fruit. But when I asked you how many different kinds of fruit you bought, I wasn't fucking asking about tomatoes and everyone would know that.
