Finnegan's Wake

Oh, right. I don't drink caloric beverages except for coffee w/ some non dairy creamer w/ meals. I drink Accelerade peri and post workout as well.

I'm thinking I'll probably just not ask and put it away if confronted by an official. Mea culpa...

Why would they care if a fighters family/friend brought a camera? Unless they were making DVD's to sell I could see them no wanting someone else to do it. But you're probably right Tamil, prolly best to just bring it in, inconspicuously of course, and plead ignorance if someone hassles ya.

Tamil, remind me to upload the video BEFORE I start drinking.

MMA

2 hours

Warm Up: Shadowboxing, jump rope, stretching, etc

Bagwork:
Double End bag:
3 three minute rounds, all 1-2's, 1-1-2's, 1-2-1-2's, 3's

MMA Sparring:
3 two minute rounds, 2 minutes rest (warm up rounds, very light contact)

3 three minute rounds, 1:30 rest

Highlights: Pretty much nothing.
Lowlights: I hate socks, and cuts on toes that require bandages. Threw off everything this entire bout. Didn't really do bad, but my low kicks were crap, my takedowns were crap (even when they worked), and I had no traction for reversals. Took a really hard spinning back kick to the ribs that made me take a breather. I did very poorly this entire bout.

Bout two:
three 3 minute rounds, 1 min. rest
Highlights/ Lowlights: See above. I was in sniper mode this entire time. Best thing out of this bout was slip-right low kicks and head movement. Didn't get tagged hardly at all, but didn't press the action either. Got some reversals on the ground (omplata from gaurd, escape out the side from gaurd)

(30 minute break to go to the store, where I bout a blister bandage, latex finger protectors for my toe, and some lunch)

Iron Man MMA Sparring: (2 rounds in, one round out, 3 minute rounds w/ 1 minute rest for a total of 4 rounds in.
Highlights: No socks! Return of the low kick/ body kicks. Landed some good inside punches to the body, faked a shot and landed an overhand right, passed guard for GnP pretty well and defended against GnP pretty well from the bottom.

Lowlights: Ate a hard straight right moving in right in the teeth. A++ for the Pro Performance mouthgaurd. Didn't even feel it. One inch higher and I'd have a broken nose. One inch lower and it would have been a KO (superheavyweight).

Impressions:
Well, this sucked today until I put a different style of bandaging on the toe. It worked really well, and I was able to take the socks off. Didn't really get a good workout as much as skill training today, so I'll figure out something else to do for tonight.
Very upset with my overall performance today, but I didn't really get into it until it was almost over. Everyone has off days I guess.

Seems I've got an opponent. The first one dropped out, but it appears I've got a replacement. My amateur MMA debut, barring injury or other randomness, is scheduled for March 8th, here in southern Indiana (very, very close to Louisville).
Some of you have expressed interest in attending this event, so let me know who all to expect to drop by. I know a couple of you are already, but please PM me some contact info for directions.

Good luck with the fight man, try and get a video if you can!

It sounds like it was mostly the toe and consequent sock that was throwing you off, so don't be too hard on yourself. Everything else you're doing is phenomenal, and even today doesn't sound that bad, especially the latter half.

Density Training:

5 Chin Ups
10 BW Dips
15 Sprawls

Time limit: 20 minutes.
Complete Circuits: 10

Core Conditioning:
Circuit repeated 3 times, no rest between exercises, 1:30 rest between circuits

12 Ab Wheel Rollouts
16 Dumbell Twists (65 lbs dumbell)
12 Side Bends (150 lbs, 6 per side)
10 Neck Harness (50 lbs)
12 Back Hypers

Finisher: 100 medicine ball slams (20 lbs mb)

Impressions:
Crappy luck continued. Busted a water bottle when I sprawled back and kicked it across the floor, so I lost some time taking care of that. Other than that, I'm fairly pleased w/ this conditioning circuit. I wanted something both GPP and sports specific, and this worked out well. The sprawls were by far the most taxing of the three exercises.
The medicine ball slams at the end were particularly enjoyable today for some reason. Beats me as to why, but I really got into them.

maybe you were letting out some pent-up aggression

Kickboxing/ MMA Skill Work

Bagwork:
Bas Rutten's 3 minute All Around Fighting
3 rounds

Shadowboxing/ Mirror Work:
Bas Rutten's 3 minute Thai Boxing
4 rounds

50 Right straights

Impressions:
Focused on technique and power more than conditioning, and as such, didn't do all the sprawls.
The mirror helped a bit. I still drop my right somewhat on the return, and my rotation could be better. I'm going to put in more time in front of the mirror.

I was doing some shadowboxing in front of the mirror last night too, for the first time in forever. Definitely helpful.

Alright. We found out our opponent's names, and they ours, so from here on out, it'll just be "MMA Skill Training" without any details.
I'll ask questions through PMs, and would appreciate if any advice given pertaining to skillwork be PMed instead of posted.

haha....but how can you tell the opponent wont hack the PMs or worse yet read your thoughts?...j/k...

good luck Finn....hope everything goes smoothly as the fight approaches...the guy stands on chance against you...

you think the guy has access to this log? i'd be intimidated as hell knowing what you're doing
