Finnegan's Wake

Noble is often synonymous with Asshole. I'd rather be Poe's antogonist.

-I'm fuzzy on the whole Kimura/ Americana/ Keylock terminology.
- As far as why we (Wing Tsun guy and I) didn't do more GnP was that this was my last round, and I was just damned tired of being on the ground. I forgot that we were even doing GnP for the first half of the fight.

-I was pretty pleased with that takedown as well. I should have tried to pass immediately, but I opted to throw a couple of shots and just stand back up instead.

-He is irritating to fight. I'm making him pay for his tomfoolery when I can (low kicks, dirty boxing, looping "Liddell" hooks, etc). Still, he wants to test his stuff, which is more than I can say most TMAers.

Nice vids finny - you're going to fucking maul the other dude, come fight time. Make sure you get some vid of that btw, would be a waste not to.

Damn work computer blocks hosted images. Its probably for the best, though.
Thanks. I'll definitely get a vid of the fight. And a cameraperson w/ a tripod. Their family will be held hostage and they will be told that if they shake the camera, or blur it in any way, I'll mail their little Suzy and Timmy back to them. And by mail I mean feed through a chipper shredder aimed at their mailbox.

Kimura/ Chicken wing = hand facing down being pulled behind back. You try to make the back of their hand touch the back of their skull.

Americana/ Keylock = hand facing up. Bring their elbow in close to their body and try to rotate their arm up so their elbow is above their head.

That stuff all seems to be working for you, but I think just good, clean counter punching will work really well for you with this guy. He drops his hands ALL THE TIME, maybe just try walking him down with jabs, cutting off the ring/mat, and stepping inside his flailing shots with hard straight punches.

But yeah, you got to hand it to him for being willing to get in there.

Gear Arrived:

CSI 100 lbs Thai bag.
CSI Traditional Shin/ Instep guards

Impressions:
This is one big fucking bag! I had no idea how much it would dominate my exercise space w/ its sythetic leather floor to ceiling awesomeness. I hit it a few times, nothing too much. So far, I like it a lot. I had to completely rearrange my dungeon since I won't be taking this one down and putting it back up every GPP session. I had to sacrifice my whirlpool dip station, but that's okay. I'll work on Bench and Overhead press for a while until I get a power tower.
The instep gaurds are very, very nice. Thick padding and straps that fit my legs. The only thing I can see being a problem is that the straps my come undone in sparring while grappling. Still, a damned good 12 dollars spent from CSI. I don't care if I have to glue them to black ones I have now for that price.
Overall, a good 150 dollars spent.
It was weird to move the weight bench to the side. Its been center to the space for a long time. Now, its the bag. Symbolism is a bitch.

Gear Purchased:
150 lbs (4 25's, 4 10's, 2 5's) of Weider steel Standard plates for 25 bucks. I don't really have the money to be spending on this stuff right now, but that was too good of a deal to pass up. I'll make some long standard db handles for farmer's walks/ lunges. I already have 200+ lbs of standard plates, so this is a nice addition.
I need to buy 2 more 45's (Olympic) soon, as I'm approaching 550 deadlift.
When should I think about upgrading my bar? The one I have is a Dick's Sporting goods Oly bar. Its a bit thicker handled than a normal Oly bar, and a couple inches shorter. Think it will hold up to 600 for a DL?

If you pay for Carnal's ticket and some coke, I'll get right on that.

New gear is always fun...im going to go update my log with my new gear

MMA Class:
2 hours

Warmup circuit:
Circuit repeated 3 times with no rest

15 jumping jacks
15 burpees
15 split jumps
5 laps around the room

Bagwork:
Worked on the "Standard" combo (left low kick-1-2)
-Worked on 1-2-left hook to the body-overhand right on the "Bob". Went slow and focused on bringing my left hand back to cover.

Rolling:
We went straight from warm up to rolling today since the instructor will not be there tomorrow.
We each went 5 five minute rounds.

My highlights:
-transitioned from position to position well today, especially from side mount to full mount. The two days of rest really made a difference.
-Got a standing kimura (ala Saku vs Renzo) and dragged the opponent down, locked up half gaurd, but couldn't finish. I was still pleased.
-Regained gaurd from being side mounted a few times. Thanks shrimping!
-didn't get subbed all night.

My lowlights:
-Got back mounted literally every single round and spent two or three minutes fighting off chokes.
- Had to default to raw strength for gaurd passing as I totally spaced on technique until round 3
- Got mounted three times, but was able to get back to half guard.
-Unable to finish opponents from full mount. Not confident in amrbars.

Impressions:
Not bad today. We got another heavyweight (220 range, should be 205). I forget how strong I am sometimes until I come up against someonw my same size that much, much weaker than me. The new guy has trained before, and is pretty good on the mat, but I just outmuscled him most of the time.
My sprawl is getting better. I asked the instructor to help me with some greco techniques sometime, as I feel that my upper body strength lends itself well to that style; and it would compliment my clinch game.

10 minute rest (the drive home)

Density Work:

Sledgework:
10 lbs sledge swings in 10 minutes

511 swings in 10 minutes. Not my best, but not bad after rolling.

5 minute rest

GPP circuit:
Circuit repeated 3 times, no rest between exercises or circuits
1 minute jumping jacks
1 minute Double end bag 1-2-bob n weave
1 minute high jumps

Impressions:
Typing is hard.

How much flex does you bar have in it in the 500's? it should be fine for 600. Most gym's have cheap bars and i've had about 700 on them, major bend but still held up

I'm not really sure about how much flex I've got. I'll have to video it. (ironically, I've never videoed a deadlift.)
